David James Burgess 1955-1986

David James Burgess, a son of Dorothy and Jack Burgess, was born in Garden City, Kansas on January 13, 1955, and departed this life on October 23, 1986 in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 31 years.  He spent most of his life in Lansing, Kansas.

At the age of 10, David professed his faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Deerfield Southern Baptist Church in Deerfield, Kansas.  He was baptized by his father.  At the time of his death he was a member of the Nall Avenue Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

David graduated from Lansing High School in 1973, and then attended Kansas University, and received a degree in Physical Education.  He also attended school and became a licenses beautician, and managed several hair salons in Kansas City.

Prior to his death David was a teachers aid in the Kansas City Elementary Public School System.

He is survived by his parents Jack and Dorothy Burgess of Lansing, Kansas; one brother Billy Dean Burgess of Lansing, Kansas; one sister, Lois Jean Owen of Leavenworth, Kansas; his paternal grandparents, Alonzo and Julia Burgess of Hazelgreen, and his maternal grandmother Mrs. Claudine Newell of Richland, other relatives and many friends.

David is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Newell.

Funeral services were from Colonial Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 1986 with Rev. Dan Redmond officiating.

Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and Marcia Shadel, organist.

Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Escorts were Kenneth Newell, Jimmy Burgess, Leo McDaniel, Keith Owen, Gerry Burgess, and George Henson.
