Mrs. Ora Anderson died last Wednesday morning of consumption. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Nickels, an old resident of this county. She was buried from the Ideuma church and at that cemetery.

Leon Thornhill 1943-1986

A. Leon Thornhill, son of Arthur and Lillian Thornhill, was born in Pulaski County, Missouri, on March 21, 1943, and departed this life November 8, 1986, at the age of forty three years, as a result of a truck accident.

When Leon was twelve years old, he was saved, baptized and became a member of the Idumea Baptist Church.  Later moving his membership to the First Baptist Church of Buckhorn.  In February of 1985 he rededicated his life and moved back home to Idumea.  He went around telling people how the Lord had spared his life and gave him another chance.

On September 17, 1966 he was united in marriage with Arlene Ogle and to this union was born two children, both surviving.

He was united in marriage with Sue Joiner on February 14, 1982.

Leon was employed with Trailliner Trucking Company of Springfield, Mo., for the past two years.  He has made Laquey his home for most of his life.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Russell Randolph and Rev. Don Martin officiating.

Resting place was in the Idumea Cemetery.

Escorts for Mr. Thornhill were Alvin Lowery, Dallas Hendrix, Joe Skidmore, Marvin Gan, Marvin Stafford and Gary Humphrey.

Those left to mourn his passing include a son Jerry and a daughter Kelly, both of Lebanon; his mother Lillian Thornhill of Laquey; one brother, Larry of Laquey; two sisters, Linda York of Laquey and Leona Sanders of Stella, Mo; four nephews, Craig, Chris, Adam, and Jeremy; and one niece, Jessica; also his aunts, uncles, several cousins and a host of friends.

Leon was a person who made friends easy and had lots of them.

Albert Lee Nickels 1912-1986

Albert Lee Nickels, son of Ernest and Eliza Johnson Nickels, was born in Pulaski County om March 25, 1912, and departed this life January 18, 1986 at his home in Waynesville, Missouri at the age of seventy-three years.

On July 23, 1936 he was united in marriage with Edna Coogan, and to this union was born five sons, all surviving.

Lee has been a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church at Big Piney, Missouri for many years.  He drove and managed the Williams Bus Lines for a total of twenty five years, and has made Pulaski County his home all of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of the home; five sons, Jack of Waynesville, Donald of Warrensburg, Missouri, Ronald of Dugway, Utah, Michael of Nebo, Missouri, and Marvin of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; two brothers, Wilbur Nickels of Richland, Dr. Harvey Nickels of Waynesville; and one sister, Thelma Fisher of Richland; ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

Those preceding him in death include his parents, three brothers, Charles, James, and Roy, one sister, Irene Berger and an infant sister.

Robert Gibson 1926-1986

Robert Gibson was born January 5, 1926 at Niangua, Missouri.  He was the son of Louis and Lucy Bullock Gibson.  He departed this life June 30, 1986 having attained the age of 60 years, 5 months, and 25 days.

He attended school at Waynesville and entered the army in 1942 during World War II and served 3 years in Europe.  He was united in marriage to Rotha Nell Halford on January 1, 1946 and they shared 40 years together, and to this union 5 children were born.  He worked at Ft. Leonard Wood in the motor pool under civil service until he retired in 1982 with 32 years.  He was also in partnership with his brother in Gibson Brothers Garage for 15 years at Laquey, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife Rotha, Rt. 2, Richland, Mo.; 5 children, Robert K. Gibson, of Mountain Home, Ark., Sheila Odom of Orange, Tx., Richard C. Gibson, of Dallas, Tx., Teresa Alkire, of laquey, Mo., and Janene Elizey of Laquey, Mo., 9 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Roy, Gene, and Bill of Laquey, Mo. And Junior of Kansas City, Mo.; 2 sisters Alma Prewett of Waynesville, Mo., and Thelma O’Nell of Cleveland, Tx.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father and 2 brothers Cecil and Russell.

Funeral services for Mr. Gibson were held July 2, 1986 at the Idumea Baptist Church with Rev. Don Martin and Rev. Russell Randolph pastor of the Idumea Baptist Church officiating.  Music was provided by Dorothy Moore, Pianist, solos by Iva Mae Case and Charles Folkert.  Serving as Pallbearers were Steven Kelsey, Shannon Kelsey, Charley Bench, Tracy Gibson, Darold Wieners, Sr.  Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Hobbs, Howard Slawson, Fred Gibson, and Curtis Halford.  Interment was in the Idumea Baptist Church Cemetery.  Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Harvey Ernest Nickels Jr. 1923-1986

Harvey Ernest Nickels Jr., son of Harvey E. Nickels Sr. and Eliza Johnson Nickels, was born in Pulaski County on May 24,1923, and departed this life March 19, 1986 in Columbia, Missouri.

Dr. Nickels attended Waynesville Schools and graduated in 1941.  He was united in marriage with Wanda Lea Ferguson on August 10, 1941, and to this union was born three sons, all surviving.  Dr. Nickels was united in marriage with Iris Cohn on May 15, 1971.  In March of 1979 he was married to Rita Black.

He was a member of the American Academy of Osteopathic Surgeons, of Wanesville Masonic Lodge, the Fort Leonard Wood - Pulaski County Shrine Club and a member of several local saddle clubs.

In 1942 he entered the United States Air Force, and served his country during World War II, where he was a tail gunner, stationed in Italy.  He was injured in a plane crash in 1945 and soon returned to the states.  He then owned and operated the Laquey store and managed the Laquey Post Office for a number of years, until medical school became his real desire.

Attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, he graduated in 1954, and served his residency in Carl Junction from September of 1954 until March of 1955.  Dr. Nickels then returned to Pulaski County where he has practiced medicine ever since.  He was instrumental in providing Pulaski County with good medical care and by his continued support and hard work also provided Pulaski County with an excellent medical facility, Pulaski County Memorial Hospital.

Those surviving include his wife Rita of Waynesville; three sons, Gary Nickels of Waynesville, Darrell Nickels of Waynesville, and Dr. Terry Nickels of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one step son, Dr. Joey Cohn of Springfield; one step daughter Chrisy Cohn of Springfield; one brother Wilbur Nickels of Richland; one sister Thelma Fisher of Richland; seven grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iris, two brothers, James and Lee and two infant brothers, and one sister Irene Berger.

Clara Verena (Tanner) Hill 1901-1986

Clara Verena Hill, daughter of Joseph and Annie Mae Manes Tanner, was born February 18,1901 at Laquey, Missouri and departed this life February 23, 1986 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 85 years.

As a young girl Clara professed her faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized and became a member of the Idumea Baptist Church.  She later moved her membership to the Grace Baptist Church, in Richland.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers: Howard, Joe, Hubert, Virgil, and Ernest; one infant brother Benny; and one infant sister Lima.

Those surviving include two sisters: Lorene Clutts of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and Nettie Hill of Richland; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25, 1986 at 10:00 a.m. at the Idumea Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Randolph officiating.

Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist, and DeLores Shadel, organist.

Burial was in the Idumea Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Escorts were: Lyndal York, Richard York, Kenny Nickels, James McKinnon, Gary Humphrey, and Herman Murray.

Beverly A. (Holman) Talbot 1951-2011

Beverly A. Talbot, daughter of the late Floyd and Mila Holman, was born April 29, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. At an early age, Beverly’s mother passed away and she was raised by her loving grandmother Alma Holman. She grew up in the Bennett Springs, Missouri area and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1969. As a young girl, Beverly was a member of the Pine Creek Baptist Church.

Beverly met the love of her life, Basil Franklin “Bill” Talbot. They were united in marriage on September 2, 2005 at their home in Falcon, Missouri. They shared over 30 years together and many wonderful memories.

Beverly was a hardworking woman and was privileged to spend most of her working years as a stay at home mom and housewife. She loved taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing games on the computer and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.

Beverly passed away at 12:05 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2011 in the Christian Health Care – South of Lebanon, Missouri having attained the age of 60 years, 3 months and 28 days.

Beverly will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Basil Talbot of the home; four children: Sandra Glasser (Mark) of Lebanon, MO, Tracy Lewis of Falcon, MO, Sherry Smith of Rolla, MO and John Talbot (Orissa) of Dixon, MO; four brothers: Pepper Guthrie of Windyville, MO, Jerry Guthrie of Conway, MO, Donald Guthrie of the state of Californa and Joe Holman of Bennett Springs, MO; eight grandchildren: Basil and Stephanie Hironimus, Cody Lewis, Chelsea and Alaina Smith and Roxie, John and Hannah Talbot; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her grandmother, Alma Holman.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Shannon Lewis officiating. The songs “Goodbyes (The Saddest Word)”, “Go Rest High on that Mountain”, “One Day at a Time” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Serving as escorts were Tracy Gibson, Shannon Jackson, Dennis Ray, Dean Warren, Jerry Jackson and Billy Skidmore. Serving as honorary escorts were Dwight Jackson, Mark Glasser and Bob Yount.

Burial followed in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

Montana Hawk Parsons 1993-2010

Montana Hawk Parsons, 17 of Kirksville, formerly of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Montana was born September 27, 1993 in Rolla, Missouri to Al Donald Parsons II and Leslie Ann (Polk) Jarboe. He grew up in the Laquey area and attended school.

Montana met his fiancée, Amber and moved to Kirksville to be near her and was looking forward to the birth of their first child.

While in Kirksville, Montana began working in the horse stables. He enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball. In recent years, you could find him either riding a horse on a trail, a dirt bike, or a four wheeler. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Montana loved being outdoors.

Montana will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée: Amber Alexander, and baby on the way: Montana Hawk Parsons of Kirksville; his mother: Leslie Jarboe of Laquey; his father: Al Parsons II of Laquey; grandparents: Al Parsons (Debbie Crawford) of Waynesville; Sally Polk of Crocker and Al Polk of Ft. Worth, Texas; one brother: Cody Jarboe of Richland; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Montana was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen Parsons.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Coach Marcus Davis and Montana’s cousin Taylor Buescher recalled their wonderful memories of Montana. The songs “I Can Only Imgaine”, “I Miss You” and “If I Die Young” were played. Serving as escorts were Cody Jarboe, Preston Cook, Luke Harding, Taylor Buescher, Grace Lumbreras, Jordan Hicks, Billie Hicks, MaKenzie Buescher, Ryan Ferdig and Cameron Fagré.

Burial followed in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

Sarah Elizabeth (Gan) Stewart 1928-2007

Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, born September 4, 1928, was one of four children born to the union of the late James Franklin and Amanda (York) Gan, near Bloodland, Missouri.

Elizabeth departed this life the morning of July 21, 2007 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 17 days from congestive heart failure and several surgeries and infections.

Elizabeth's mother, Amanda, passed away January 16, 1936 with cancer. She is buried in the Old Friendship Cemetery of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and so is her father "Little Frank", as he was fondly called. Frank died in a car accident on November 17, 1965.

Elizabeth's father married Edith Campbell, after the death of Amanda, and brought the family back together. They lived near Bloodland, Missouri until the family was forced to move to make way for Fort Leonard Wood, to train soldiers for World War II. They moved to the Northwest part of Pulaski County to the community of Turkey Ridge near Waynesville. Elizabeth attended Bloodland School and Turkey Ridge School.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Robert M. "Bob" Stewart, a World War II veteran, on January 12, 1947 and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They shared four children: Sandra, William Robert (Billy Bob), Marlena and Richard.

Elizabeth and Bob lived in Rolla, when Bob was attending the Missouri School of Mines. They lived in East Peoria, Illinois while Bob worked for Caterpillar and in the fall of 1950, they moved back to Waynesville when Bob was employed at Fort Leonard Wood. Bob went to work in Rolla at the U.S.G.S. in January 1957. He retired in May of 1981. Elizabeth was very busy with caring and being there for their children and being a good loving wife. She was a very good seamstress and sewed many clothes.

Elizabeth and Bob loved to travel and camp, which they combined when they started their craft shows all over Missouri and many other states. Their last shows featured beautiful, "Plenty Pockets Purses", made from "pre-loved" jeans which Bob cut and Elizabeth sewed. They called their business "Stewart's Denim-ite Designs."

Elizabeth and Bob are currently attending Community Christian Church of Rolla, Missouri and have attended Ridgeview Christian Church of Rolla, MO and First Christian Church of Waynesville, MO.

Elizabeth and Bob loved their children and grandchildren and made many trips to visit them.

Elizabeth will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Bob and the children: Sandra Gass and her husband John of Burlington, IA, W.R. (Billy Bob) Stewart and his wife, Tracy of O'Fallon, IL and Marlena Jones and her husband Terry of Rolla, MO; step-son: Richard Stewart of Morton, IL; step-sister: Frieda York of Waynesville, MO; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; 2 step-brothers: John and Jim Campbell; step-sister: Imogene Reeves; 2 sisters and their husbands: Lettie Baranowski and Joe, Mary Bell Booker and Bud; one brother: Lee Otis Gan and wife Edna (Jefferies); daughter-in-law: Gloria Stewart; and infant grandson: Jeremy Jones.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dale Wands officiating. Sarah Wands read a beautiful poem in honor of Elizabeth. The song "Forever and Ever Amen" was played and Soloist Becky Lercher sang "The Old Rugged Cross". Serving as escorts were Leonard Atterberry, Larry Baranowski, Francis Barnes, Jerry Avery, James Baranowski and James Booker. Serving as honorary escorts were Dwight and J.R. Baranowski.

Burial followed in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Angela Marie “Angie” (Hall) Gibson 1974-2011

Angela Marie “Angie” Gibson, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011, near the community of Sleeper, Missouri in Laclede County, at the age of 37 years, 1 month and 3 days.

One of three children and the only daughter of the union of Frank E. Hall and Anne (Stewart) Hall Cooper, Angie was born September 11, 1974 in Pekin, Illinois.

Angie grew up and attended school in Pekin, before moving to the Laquey, Missouri area where she graduated from Laquey High School, Class of 1992. As a child she enjoyed taking family vacations to Missouri; spending much time at Barlow’s Ford River floating and laying in the sun tanning.

For the last six years, Angie worked as a housekeeper for the lodging department on Ft. Leonard Wood. Angie loved watching her son Logan play soccer and listening to her son Billy’s music.

Angie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized when she was a young girl. In recent years, she re-dedicated her life and became a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church. Angie loved the Lord and her church family very much. It was extremely important to Angie that Billy and Logan have a relationship with the Lord and attend church.

Angie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her sons: Billy Joe Gibson and Logan Wade Gibson both of the home; the boys’ father: Tracy Gibson of Laquey; Angie’s parents: Frank Hall (Valerie) of North Pekin, Illinois and Anne Cooper (Thomas) of Laquey; Angie’s beloved companion: Earl Crossland; grandmother: Mavis Stewart of North Pekin, Illinois; two brothers: David of North Pekin, Illinois and Frank F. Hall, II (Yalonda) of Pekin, Illinois. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Angie was preceded in death by grandparents: Winfield “Buster” Stewart, Frank Hall and Helen Whitty and two uncles: Johnny Stewart and Mike Hall.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Larry Atkins and Zandy Vandall officiating. Angie’s son, Billy Joe Gibson, played a beautiful song on his guitar. The songs “My Heart Will Go On”, “Sissy’s Song” and “Marvelous Light” were played. Serving as escorts were David Hall, Mark, Collin, Troy, Jason and Jimmy Stewart, Randy Crossland, Larry and Austin Hunter, Jason Beauchamp, James and John Smith, Earl Crossland, Tracy Gibson and Shane Stewart.

Burial followed in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

Franklin C. Stoll 1933-1990

The Angel of Death has crossed the threshold of another home and taken away the loving companion, Father, Brother, and friend, and left in our hearts a void which can never be filled.

Franklin C. Stoll was born November 17, 1933, in Afton, Missouri. Franklin departed this life August 12, 1990.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Nellie of the home; five children, Tommy Michael of Texas, Susie Burch of Springfield, Nicholis Michael of Richland, David Michael and John Michael of Springfield; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his mother, Lena Hayes of Lebanon; one brother, Norman Stoll of Richland, and many friends.

Franklin loved the Lord. He accepted Christ as his Savior in 1970, and has served the Lord since that time. He is a member of the Idumea Baptist Church; a church he loved very much.

Franklin went to grade school at Hooker and Pleasant Grove (near Buckhorn). He went to high school at Waynesville, and finished his education while in the Navy.

He married Nellie (Lathrom) Michael in January of 1969, at the

Burial was in the Idumea Baptist Church Cemetery, Laquey. Services were under the direction of Waynesville memorial Chapel.

A memorial has been established to the Idumea Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in memory of Franklin C. Stoll.

Franklin didn’t have many hobbies, but he loved to fish and camp out and especially spending time with his family.

After working for the Army Air Force Exchange a few years, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years, and then back to the Exchange, with a total of 20 years at both places. He then drove for several “over the road” bus companies for a few years.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, in the Idumea Baptist Church with Fourth Street Baptist Church in Lebanon.

Thomas Ray York 1937-1988

Thomas Ray York, son of Thomas and Freda Campbell York, was born June 22, 1937 in Bloodland, Missouri, and departed this life February 7, 1988, in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of 55 years, seven months and 16 days.

He was united in marriage with Charlotte Whittle on December 19, 1961 and has spent most of his life in this area.

He professed his faith in Jesus Christ as a young man. Later in life he surrendered to preach and serve his Lord faithfully for nearly 20 years. Although New Friendship Baptist Church was his home church, he has preached throughout Pulaski County and surrounding counties.

He and his son also owned and operated Yorks Auto Works for a number of years.

Funeral services were held from the Colonial Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 9, 1988 with Lee Todd, Minister officiating. Burial was in Idumea Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers were Donald Wieners, Sr., Dale Shetler, Bill Smith, Darold Wierners, Jr., Kenneth Bragg and Richard Tingle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; one son Kenny York of Waynesville; his parents, Thomas and Freda York of Waynesville; one brother, Lawrence York of Wichita Falls, Texas; one sister, Beverly Elliott of Waynesville; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother and an infant sister.

Lee Roy West 1929-1985

Lee Roy West, son of Henry and Addie Mae Warden West, was born in Richland on March 21, 1929 and departed this life March 12, 1985 at his home near Richland. He had attained the age of 55 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

He was united in marriage with Sadie Crossland on April 5, 1948, and to this union was born four sons and five daughters, all surviving.

Lee Roy has carpentered in the Pulaski County area for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie, of the home; four sons, Roy, David, and Douglas, all of Waynesville, and Donald of Osage Beach; five daughters, Addie McKinnon, Rhonda Hainline and Robin Young, all of Waynesville; Lorna West of the home, and Paula Nuckolls of Pinnacle, North Carolina; one brother, Eddie of Waynesville; and three sisters, Linda Scott of Amarillo, Texas; Shirley McDowell of Osage Beach, and Polly Ann Crawford of Harrison, Ohio; 24 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bobby Gene, William Byron, and Frances West, and two sisters, Gladys Henry and Almeta Crossland.

Funeral services were held from the Colonial Funeral Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 1985 with Rev. Ray York officiating and under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapel.

The music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and DeLores Shadel, organist.

Burial was in Idumea Cemetery.

Hazel Thornhill Wade 1916-1984

Hazel Thornhill Wade, the daughter of John William “Will” Thornhill and Gertrude Alma Lewis was born on April 1, 1916, in Pulaski County, Missouri, and she departed this life on October 26, 1984 at Pulaski County Memorial Hospital in Waynesville, Missouri having attained the age of 68 years, 6 months and 25 days.

She lived most of her life in Pulaski County and she began working at International Shoe Company in Richland, Missouri in 1947, working there until they ceased operation. She moved to Sullivan, Missouri and worked for the same company until she moved to Ohio in 1965.

She was married to Granville Wilson in 1933, who preceded her in death. To this union one son Sidney A. Wilson of Kingsville, Texas was born.

She was married to Leo Wade of Kinsman, Ohio in 1965, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived in addition to her son by three grandchildren of Kingsville, Texas; one sister, Gladys Woolard of Lebanon, Missouri and several nieces and nephews, also many other relatives and friends.

In addition to those mentioned she was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers: Lawrence, Herman, Arthur, and one infant brother at birth.

She resided at Waynesville Nursing Center for the past 12 months, after becoming ill in May 1979.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 28, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Idumea Baptist Church with Rev. Reavil Hankins officiating.

Interment was in the Idumea Cemetery under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Joyce Townsend.

Those serving as escorts were: Ted Williams, Roger Williams, Mike Rouse, Danny Cordry, Marvin Stafford, and Marvin Gan.

Lloyd George Self 1917-1984

Lloyd George Self was born November 26, 1917 in Buffalo, Missouri, to Edward Walker Self and Ella Sylvania Long Self, and passed away at his home in Laquey, Missouri on February 26, 1984. At the time of his passing, he had attained the age of 66 years and 3 months.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at the Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church, Buffalo, Missouri.

In 1935, Lloyd moved with his family to Lemon Cove, California, later enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He returned to San Jose, California, where he had been employed prior to his duty in the Navy, residing there until he returned to Missouri in 1979.

On October 29, 1945, he was united in marriage to Margaret Arlene Harris, and to this union was born 3 children.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3168.

Lloyd and his wife enjoyed traveling with the Travel Trailer Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, William Howard and 1 sister, Mary Elizabeth Fullerton.

Those surviving him are his wife, Margaret, of the home; 1 son, John Lloyd of Laquey, Missouri; 2 daughters, Alice Marie Tripoli of Morgan Hill, California; and Linda Arlene DeSelle of San Jose, California; 2 brothers, Lee Self of Exeter, California; and Bert Self of Sagle, Idaho; 4 sisters, Inez Fullerton and Edith Bence of Exeter, California; Gladys Montgomery of Sacramento, California; and Dorothy Stuart of Three Rivers, California; 8 grandchildren;

Lloyd was very proud of his heritage, being the fourth generation of the Self family in Missouri.

He loved his family and home. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard, and helping his neighbors and friends.

Services for Lloyd G. Self were held at Colonial Funeral Chapel 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 1984. Officiating at the services was Rev. F.S. Hammons. Music was provided by Rust Shadel, Soloist, Marcia Shadel, Organist. Burial was in the Idumea Cemetery.

Escorts were Merrell Jeffries, Ezra Allen, Bill Barnes, Vance Barnes, Alvin Lowery, and Ray Moorman. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland, Missouri.

Lillie Ella (Cleaver) Storie 1895-1984

Lillie Ella Storie, was born a daughter of Marian Cleaver and Alma (Mitchell) Cleaver on July 4, 1895, and she departed this life, March 25, 1984 at the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital in Waynesville, Missouri.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized and joined the Ideuma Baptist Church at the age of 27.

She was united in marriage to Samuel Storie May 14, 1911 and to this union seven children were born. They shared 52 years of marriage.

She moved to the Pulaski County area at the age of 12 and has lived in the area ever since.

She enjoyed life to the fullest, always making the most of what life had to offer. As long as her health permitted she made garden, and tended it. She had a great talent in sewing and quilting for herself and family.

Mrs. Storie had great pride and love for her family, church and many many friends.

She is survived by three sons: Milford of Caseville, Illinois, Marshall and James both of Niangua, Missouri; four daughters: May York of Lebanon, Missouri, Lucy Rogers of Springfield, Missouri, June Foster of Plato, Missouri and JoAnn Smith of Seneca, Missouri; two half-brothers: Howard Storie of Laquey, Missouri and Henry Storie of Waynesville, Missouri; one half-sister: Jose Moody of Laquey, Missouri; one step-brother: William Storie and 32 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, March 28, 1984, 2:00 p.m. at Ideuma Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Elam and Jack Southard officiating.

Music was provided by the Ideuma Church Choir with Velma Elam as the pianist.

Escorts were: Joe Rogers, Kenneth Storie, and Cleo Nunn.

Burial was in the Ideuma Cemetery under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Joel B. “J.B.” Simmons Jr 1942-2009

Joel B. “J.B.” Simmons Jr., 66, of Rolla, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
Funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, in Salem Avenue Baptist Church, Rolla, with the Rev. Mark Johnson and Leroy Tucker officiating. Internment with full military honors is at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Idumea Cemetery in Laquey.
Visitation for family and friends is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, in Null & Son Funeral Home, Rolla.
J.B. was born Oct. 17, 1942, in Tampa, Fla., to Joel B. Simmons Sr. and Dorothy B. Barmes Simmons.
He married Connie Nickels on Nov. 7, 1963.
J.B. was a retired U.S. Army Captain having served from 1960-1980. He later began a 21-year career with the U.S.G.S. in Rolla.
He was a long time member and deacon at the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla.
In addition to his parents, his brother, James A. Simmons, preceded him in death.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife Connie; two children: Kelly Bethel and her husband Bryan of Patterson, and Joel Duane Simmons and his wife Tina of Rolla; a brother, John C. Glen Truman Stewart 1907-1984

Glen Truman Stewart, son of William O. and Esther Mitchell Stewart was born August 19, 1907 in Lucas County, Iowa and departed this life May 22, 1984 at the Harry S. Truman V.A. Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Glen married Ada Lea Green who survives. To this union four children were born. Glen and Ada shared 54 years together.

About four years ago Glen was converted and baptized. He attended the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. He served to defend his country in World War I in the European theatre as a PFC in the artillery.

Glen was employed by the Caterpillar Company in Peoria, Illinois for many years before retiring to a farm near Brownfield, Missouri, later moving to Richland.

He is survived by his loving wife Ada of the home, one son Donald and wife Shirley of E. Peoria, Illinois, three daughters, Elva Lea Henson and husband Wayne, Ella Mae Crossland and husband Kemmel, Gladys Crossland and husband Dexter, all of Richland. Eighteen grandchildren, and twenty seven great grandchildren, stepmother, Minnie Stewart of Buckhorn, sister, Elva Hutton, Buckhorn, half brother Robert of Rolla, two half sisters, Betty Pritchet and Hazel Grifin of Buckhorn. A number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services for Glen T. Stewart were held at Colonial Funeral Chapel 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 1984. Officiating at the services was Rev. Jim Bench. Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist; and Marcia Shadel, organist. Burial was in the Idumea Cemetery. Escorts were grandsons.

Charles Wright Talbot 1947-1961

Coroner’s Jury Rules Death of Charles Talbot, 13, Result Of Accident Sunday Afternoon

A coroner’s jury Tuesday night ruled that Charles Wright Talbot, 13 year old Laquey youth, died as a result of accidental shooting Sunday afternoon. According to testimony, Talbot and Gilbert Easterbrook, a 14 year old neighbor boy were playing in a cabin at the home of Talbot’s mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell A. Kinsworthy, when the accident occurred. At the inquest the Osterbrook boy stated that he and young Talbot had been playing with a knife, throwing it at a tree, and had been playing with a piece of chain. The Easterbrook boy then went into the cabin and took the gun off the wall and when the Talbot boy came through the doorway he pointed the gun at “Chuck” and pulled the trigger, not knowing that the gun was loaded. The bullet from the highpowered Hornet .22 rifle hit the Talbot boy in the throat. Talbot then fell to the floor and the Osterbrook boy ran to his home. When he arrived at home, he did not tell his parents of the tragedy and later went to church.

Three sisters of the slain youth found Charles and called the mother. A neighbor, Mr. Carroll, was passing by on his way to church and called the Highway Patrol.

The 14 year old first denied that he knew anything about the tragedy and later changed his story that the gun discharged when he started to hang it up. Tuesday he told the officers how the accident occurred. When asked why he had told two different stories he said that he was scared. The lad testified that he and “Chuck” were good friends and had never been mad at each other, and played together lots of times.

A sister and the mother of young Talbot stated that they did not hear the shot and also testified that the two boys were good friends and had not had any trouble. The mother testified that she had unloaded the rifle a few days before and had hung it up in the cabin where Charles stayed at night, and that she did not know how the rifle had become loaded again.

CHARLES WRIGHT TALBOT

Charles Wright Talbot, son of Basil and Clara May Talbot, was born September 16, 1947 at Waynesville, and passed away March 19, 1961 at his home on Route 2, Richland, at the age of 13 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Charles spent his entire life in Pulaski County as a child and a student at the Laquey School.

He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Clara May, his step-father, Mitchell A. Kinsworthy, and a brother, Basil, all of the home; eight sisters, Virginia Jefferies of Laquey, Lottie Cox of Peoria, Illinois, Elizabeth Norman of Waynesville, and Esther, Jane, Patricia, Julia, and Mona, all of the home; several aunts and uncles and other relatives and friends.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23, at the Idumea Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Virgil Manes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Moss-Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville.
