Wanda Kathryn Austin, the daughter of the late Virgil and Lillian Levita (Hickey) York, was born June 1, 1938 in Waynesville, Missouri and departed this life Sunday, January 10, 2010 in the St. John’s Regional Medical Center of Springfield, Missouri. She had attained the age of 71 years, 7 months and 9 days.
At the age of 6, Wanda and her family moved to California where she attended school. She was baptized at an early age while living in California. Wanda was married at the age of 16 and they moved to Arkansas in 1956. After spending 20 years in Arkansas, Wanda moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1976 where she lived the rest of her days.
Wanda spent the majority of her years staying at home and raising her six children. She took great pride in caring for them. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, fishing and singing. She was very involved with all of her children and enjoyed spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.
Wanda is survived by six children: Mitchell Miller of the state of Montana, Patrick Miller (Michelle) of Berryville, AR, Michael Miller (Lola) of Springfield, MO, Ed Lewis Miller, Jr. of Berryville, AR, Sherrilyn Mobley of Springfield, MO and Christina McDaniel (Brandon) of Springfield, MO; two sisters: Hazel Prock of the state of Washington and Patsy Haught (John) of Lebanon, MO; 26 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Alvin and Ellis York.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the Buckhorn Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. The song “Amazing Grace” was played. Serving as escorts were Brandon McDaniel, Michael Paul Mobley, David Hill and Mike Miller. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
