John W. Corey 1928-2009

John W. Corey, of Rolla, was born on September 19, 1928, at Dubuque, Iowa, a son of Walter and Edna (Starnes) Corey and departed this life at 5:50 p.m., Friday evening, December 4, 2009, at his residence in Rolla. Mr. Corey had attained the age of 81 years, 2 months and 15 days.
 
Mr. Corey was united in marriage on January 8, 1965, at Fort Leonard Wood, to Virginia Sharp. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Fredrick Gerlach; three sons, Richard, B.R., and Dennis Hartley; and two brothers, Walter and Kenneth Corey.
 
Mr. Corey was a retired United States Army veteran and had worked for the Associate Circuit Court, Rolla, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church, Vichy.
 
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Corey include: his wife, Virginia Corey, Rolla; three sons and five daughters-in-law, James and Bettysu Corey, Rolla; Larry and Connie Corey, Fairbury, Illinois; John and Phyllis Corey, Rolla; Sherryl Hartley, Rolla and Betty Mae Hartley, Harrisonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Perri Finn, Jerome; Sue and Jim McCurdy, Rolla; Mary and John Porter, state of Indiana; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Corey at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Rev. Timothy Blackwell, First Pentecostal Church, Vichy and Bro. Ron Smith, Newburg, will officiate. Interment will be in the Dixon Cemetery.
 
Visitation for Mr. Corey will be from 5 – 7 p.m., Monday, December 7, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.
