Myrna (Goodwin) Goebel 1922-1990

Services for Myrna Goebel, 67, of Knoxville who died August 28 at the Knoxville Area Hospital, were held August 31, 1990 at Williams Funeral Home.

Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.

Dr. John Bolen officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were John, Dick, Bob, and Jim Brees, and Curtis and Dennis Sorenson. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post #168 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3519.

Mrs. Goebel was born on December 18, 1922 at Buxton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Faye Goodwin.

She attended Knoxville High School and entered military service with the Marine Corp in 1941 serving until 1945, achieving the rank od Sergeant.

On July 20, 1945, she married Howard Goebel.

She had been employed by the Knoxville Veterans Hospital as secretary to the chief nurse until the family moved to Missouri. In 1965 she accepted a position in Washington, D.C. for the Department of the Army as secretary to the general in charge of the materials branch. She retired from the Army after 30 years of service in 1978.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother, and her parents.

Mrs. Goebel is survived by two daughters, Sharon Wilson of Waynesville and Major Francis Hargis of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, four grandchildren and two brothers, Bob Goodwin of Glenwood, Iowa, and Charles Goodwin of Knoxville, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to the Knoxville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
