Harry T. Martin d. 3 August 1959

Harry Thomas Martin, 85, a retired farmer and former city marshal at Waynesville, died Monday at his Waynesville home.

Survivors are his wife, Myrtle; a son, Clarence, Kirkwood; a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Burnette, Austin, Tex,; a foster daughter, Mrs. Maude Hodges, Kansas City; a brother, William, Denver; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Waynesville Baptist Church with the Tev. Cleveland Horne officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery near Waynesville with Hedges of Waynesville in charge.

Springfield businessman Isaac F. (Ike) Martin, Sr., 80, of 1209 South Jefferson, died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Martin established the Ike Martin music store, now located at 220 South Campbell, in 1919 on South Main Street. He retired in 1948.

He was active with the Missouri Conservation Commission and was a World War I Navy veteran.

Mr. Martin was a member of Goad-Ballinger American Legion Post 69, VFW, and Elks Lodge 409.

He attended Springfield Public Schools and Drury College and was a member of St. Agnes Cathedral.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel M.; three sons, Isaac F., Jr., of 2526 East Grand, Charles Dudley, of Route 2, and Ben J. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Loraine Strickrodt, Aurora, Mrs. Delbert Wright, Brentwood, and Mrs. Naomi Hasty, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are incomplete under direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer.

*Editor’s Note---Saint Robert was home to an Ike Martin Music Store as early as December 1974 when the Pulaski County Democrat reported that Mr. & Mrs. Ron Reed were the new managers. A seemingly abandoned (but stocked) Ike Martin Music Store was located just east (37.827531, -92.173484) of the IGA Foodliner on Route 66 as late as 1989.

Sarah Jane (Martin) Rollins 1834-1909

Mrs. Sarah J. Rollins, the subject of this sketch, was born in Scott county, Va. the 5th day of June, 1834. Died at her home in Waynesville 6th day of January, 1909, after an illness of about eight months duration.

She was married to James M. Rollins December 1851 in Va., where her family then resided; after seven years she with her companion and little ones removed to Missouri in the year 1858, and have since resided near this place. There were born into this home 9 children all of which grew to man and womanhood: Emily Barlow, deceased, H.E. Rollins of Dixon, Elisha M. of Thayer, Theodosia Pippin, of near Richland, Ransom R. Rollins, of Winona, John O. Rollins of Brownfield, Ida B. Morgan of near town, Thos. M. deceased and Samuel T. Rollins of Waynesville. Besides these children reared in the home was George R. Barlow, a grandson, and Chas. McDonald, a great nephew. There are 28 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

She professed faith in Christ when but fifteen years of age and was received into full fellowship of the Baptist church in the neighborhood where she lived and where her father was then pastor. Mrs. Rollins has lived a beautiful life, and altho her death has left a vacancy in the home and grief and sadness in the hearts of her loved ones, and while they will miss her cheerful smile and kind words of council and encouragement there is consolation in the thought that she died ripe in years and rich in experience in a life of good deeds.

She leaves an aged husband who walked by her side for 57 years sharing each other's joys and sorrows, and seven children and a host of friends to mourn the loss of a good woman.

Virginia (Weeks) Martin 1909-1986

Virginia Martin was born in Dixon on June 7, 1909 the daughter of L.R. and Lucy Jane Morrow Weeks and passed away in the Cox Medical Center in Springfield on February 28, 1986.  She had attained the age of 76 years.

She was united in marriage to Charley Martin on August 17, 1940.

Virginia is survived by two sisters, Lavern Weeks and Alpha Weeks of Springfield, 4 step sons, Raymond Martin of Arizona, Russell Martin and Hershel martin of Dixon and Keith Martin of Camdenton, 2 nieces, Jessie Lam and Mary Weeks, and several step-grandchildren with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers Jesse and Earl Weeks.

She enjoyed her flowers and sewing and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Monday, March 3, 1986 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Martin officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and serving as her pallbearers were Hershel, Russell, and Keith Martin, Paul Miller, Dorman Baker, and Vic Bauer.

Carl "Dude" Ambrose 1919-1986

Carl (Dude) Ambrose was born in Crocker, Missouri on July 14, 1919 the son of Floyd and Pearl Martin Ambrose and passed away in Marshfield, Wisconsin on August 15, 1986.  He had attained the age of 67 years.

Dude was raised in Crocker and then joined the Army serving from 1943 to 1946.  He then moved to Wisconsin and has lived there ever since.  For the last 30 years he owned the Cabaree Restaurant and Lounge in Wausau, Wisconsin.  For a pass time he enjoyed his horses.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home of Crocker with Rev. Clinton Faust officiating.  Burial was in the Crocker Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends of the family served as pallbearers.

He is survived by his Mother Pearl Davis of Waynesville, 1 brother Aften Ambrose of Waynesville, and 2 sisters, Helen Heck of St. Louis and Gertrude Wall of Bonner Springs, Kansas and several nieces and

Georgia Ann (Adkins) Scott 1916-1981

Georgia Ann Scott, of Dixon, was born on November 30, 1916, near Meta, Missouri, a daughter of James Lewis and Effie Belle Martin Adkins, and departed this life on Saturday afternoon, May 9, 1981, at the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital, Columbia, following an illness of three months.  Mrs. Scott had attained the age of 64 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Scott was united in marriage on June 14, 1937, near Meta, to Ona Bruce Scott,and to this union, two children were born.  Mr. Scott preceded his wife in death on October 2, 1965.  Mrs. Scott was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Adkins.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Scott include: One son, Kenneth Scott, Jefferson City; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Norwood, Dixon; one brother, Ray Adkins, Meta; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Christian, Ashland, and Mrs. Ruby Bryant, Iberia; two grandchildren, Darren Norwood and Donetta Moore, both of Dixon; and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Scott was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother, and will indeed be sadly missed by her dear family and all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Scott at 2:00 p.m., on Monday afternoon, May 11, 1981 at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. Clarence Smith, Dixon United Methodist Church, officiating.  “Beyond the Sunset” and “Amazing Grace” were sung for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.  Pallbearers for Mrs. Scott were Roy Doyle, Jerry Braun, Scott Paterson, Lonnie ___, Mark Jones, and Todd Holman.

Rosetta "Rosie" (Murray) Schneider 1941-2004

Rosetta Schneider, one of ten children born to the union of Everett and Lillie (Martin) Murray, was born August 13, 1939 at Cherryville, Missouri.

Rosie attended the Cuba schools. When she was a young girl, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Cherryville.

On August 3, 1981, Rosie was united in marriage with Paul Schneider. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2002.

As a young woman, Rosie drove a bus for the Waynesville Local Lines and later worked for Biggs Cleaners. She moved to Ohio in 1972 where she worked in the school cafeteria and drove a bus for the Wapakoneta School District for over 25 years. Rosie and Paul were also active in the Eagles Club in Wapakoneta. In 1999, they retired to Holts Summit, Missouri..Rosie, under protest. Rosie made delicious candies and other baked goods, and was wonderful to share.

Rosie went home to be with her Lord the evening of February 16, 2004 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 3 days.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother: Lillie Murray of Waynesville, MO; four sisters: Alice Murray and Enkie Rutko and her husband, Arthur, all of Waynesville, MO, Erma Skinner and her husband, Charles of Crocker, MO, and Edna Nelson and her husband, Bill of Columbia, MO; four brothers: Clifford Murray of St. Robert, MO, Herman Murray and his wife, Marsha of Richland, MO, Raymond Murray and his wife, Jackie of Wapakoneta, OH and Randy Murray and his wife, Vicki of Laceys Spring, AL; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Hofstetter of Higginsville, MO; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

In addition to her husband, Rosie was also preceded in death by her father and one sister: Henrietta Jude.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 20, at Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Harold Elson officiating. Recordings of "One Day at a Time and "Go Rest High on that Mountain were played. Serving as escorts were Eddie Bales, Steve Dapper, Clarence Greer, Terry Schultz, Jesse Tanner and Darold Wieners.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Harold Jack Martin 1946-2011

Harold Jack Martin, son of the late Noel Mack and Evelyn (Barlow) Martin was born on October 3, 1946 in Waynesville, Missouri. He passed away from this life at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at his home. Harold had attained the age of 64 years, 8 months, 20 days.

Harold grew up in Waynesville, Missouri. He graduated from high school and joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Harold attained the rank of E-8 BTCS (SW). His military achievements consisted of: Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Third Award), Navy “E” Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal (Second Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation (Second Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Recruiting Ribbon, Good Conduct (Fourth Award). On February 21, 2011 Harold was united in marriage to Frankie Lynn (Chavis). They shared several months together.

In his spare time, Harold, enjoyed swimming, fishing, and playing poker. He also liked to hunt birds, mainly pheasant and quail. Harold was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Waynesville, Missouri. He was president of the Pulaski County Pool League.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife: Frankie Martin of the home; two step-children: Charlene Nicks and Paige Urzi, both of St. Robert; one sister: Judy Brown (Benny) of Crocker, MO; nephew: Shaun Stewart of Waynesville, MO; two grandchildren: Jason Alexander and Dominic Urzi; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Brenda Martin and Pat Stankiewicz; and one brother: James Martin.

Evelyn Anita (Barlow) Martin 1918-2005

Evelyn Anita Martin, daughter of the late David and Isabel (Wilhelm) Barlow, was born September 25, 1918 in Crocker, Missouri where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1936. At the age of 14, Evelyn accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the Tavern Creek near Crocker, Missouri.

In 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to Noel M. Martin in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over 37 years of marriage together and raised five children: Harold, James, Brenda, Patricia and Judith. Noel preceded Evelyn in death on March 1, 1982.

Evelyn was a very active woman. She attended the First Baptist Church of Waynesville where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was involved in the Women's Missionary Union. She attended faithfully until her health started failing. She was also a member of the Harmony Home D.A.V., American Legion, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Missouri Extension.

In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and reading. Most importantly, she loved her children and grandchildren and treasured the times they could spend together. Mother's Day and birthdays were always a special time because all the family was together.

Evelyn went home to be with her Lord at 3:45 A.M. Friday, January 7, 2005 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 13 days.

Evelyn will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by two sons: Harold Martin and James Martin, and his wife, Dell all of Waynesville, MO; three daughters: Judy Brown and her husband, Benny of Crocker, MO, Brenda Rice and her husband, Gary of Dixon, MO and Patricia Stankiewicz and her husband, Bob of Arlington Heights, IL; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by two brothers: Bus and James Barlow and one sister: Margie Ratke.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2005 in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville, Missouri with Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. Friend of the family, John Relyea read a beautiful poem for the family. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "In The Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "God Will Take Care of You". Serving as escorts were Mike Abney, Darin Brown, Landis Brown, Troy Brown, Nathan Martin, Travis Martin and Shaun Stewart.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Brenda Ruth (Martin) Rice 1951-2005

Brenda Ruth Martin Rice, daughter of the late Noel Mack and Evelyn Anita (Barlow) Martin, was born November 10, 1951 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Brenda attended school in the Waynesville R-VI School District from Kindergarten until her junior year in high school. She then obtained her GED. As a young girl, Brenda was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Waynesville.

On September 4, 1982, Brenda was united in marriage to Gary Ray Rice at the Waynesville First Baptist Church.

Brenda worked most of her adult life as a cook at the Missouri Department of Corrections. She also drove buses for the Waynesville Local Lines a short time and was also at times a waitress. The thing she enjoyed doing the most was being a mother. She loved the times that she could spend with her three sons, her grandchildren and helping take care of her mother. In her spare time, Brenda enjoyed doing some arts and crafts projects and she loved to play bingo. She was a member of the Waynesville/St. Robert Optimist club for three years.

Brenda passed away the evening of Thursday, May 26, 2005 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 16 days.

Brenda will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her three sons: Travis Martin and his wife, Unica of Brentwood, CA, Mike Abney and his wife, Jennifer of Louisville, KY and Shaun Stewart of Waynesville, MO; one step-son: John Rice; two brothers: Harold Martin and James Martin, both of Waynesville, MO; two sisters: Judy Brown of Crocker, MO and Patricia Stankiewicz of Arlington Heights, IL; four grandchildren: Katreena, Amaris and Kiara Martin and Christina Abney; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. Brenda's son, Travis, gave a beautiful eulogy of his mother. The songs "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" and "The Dance" were played. Serving as escorts were family and friends.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Mary Elizabeth (Seymour) Martin 1919-2008

Mary Elizabeth Seymour Martin was born in a log cabin in Custer County, Colorado on May 28, 1919. She was one of seven children born to the union of the late Walter S. and Josephine E. (First) Seymour - five brothers: Charles, Melvin, Ira, Jessie and Walter Jr.; and one sister: Gertrude.

A few years later, the family moved to Hoisington, Kansas, then later to Peabody, Kansas where the family lived for many years. Mary was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as her Savior and became an immersed believer at a young age, and was a member of the Christian Church in Wonsevu, Kansas. Mary was an avid reader of the Bible and practiced those beliefs.

Mary attended school at Peabody and graduated at the end of the 8th grade. Mary was an avid reader, and loved doing many kinds of needlework, cooking and gardening. In later years, she was the family historian and kept detailed records of family members.

She was united in marriage to Donald Johnson Martin, on February 18, 1940 in Peabody, Kansas. To that union three sons were born: Byron Henry, Rufus Dale and Joseph Sherman.

After years on the family farm, Mary and Donald moved their family to El Dorado, Kansas where they both worked different jobs. They made the move to Platteville, Colorado after an inheritance was bequeathed to them in the spring of 1963. Many family members and friends surrounded both Mary and Donald. Donald worked for an oil company and Mary worked at Weld County Memorial Hospital now known as Northern Colorado Medical Center, as a nurse's aide until her retirement. Even after retirement, Mary's giving spirit led her to do home health care till her second retirement.

Mary and Donald decided to move to St. Robert, Missouri in October 1991 to be closer to her son Dale and his wife Kate. They settled there till Donald passed away in January 2000. After a lengthy illness, Mary moved in with her son Joe and grandson Rufus in St. Clair, Missouri where she resided for five years. Mary went into a skilled care facility in St. Clair, residing there for one year before transferring to Sunset Village of the Ozarks in St. Robert.

Mary had a special talent for relationships and with her sweet personality she quickly made friends. She was loved and gave love back to those she called her extended family. She especially loved reading her Bible and of course her storybooks and working word puzzles. She enjoyed a Bingo game as well as anyone. But her greatest joy was attending church at the First Christian Church in Waynesville every Sunday and being with her family. When all was well with Mary, she would give a wink and a nod.

Mary went home to be with her Lord at 11:45 P.M. Saturday, January 12, 2008 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends, especially by two sons: Dale Martin and his wife Kate of Devil's Elbow, MO and Joseph Martin of Charles City, IA; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, nephews, other relatives and fiends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by one son, Byron and one grandson, Frankie Lee.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 18, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Doug Cage officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "Amazing Grace", "The Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art" and "Serenaded By Angels". Inurnment followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Clarence Howard Martin 1921-2009

Clarence Howard Martin, of Vienna, formerly of Dixon, was born December 29, 1921, near Dixon in Maries County, a son of George Washington and Amanda Emmaline (Barnhart) Martin, and departed this life at 11:10 A.M., Thursday morning, November 19, 2009, in St. Mary’s HealthCenter, Jefferson City.  Mr. Martin had attained the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 20 days.
 
Clarence was first united in marriage on December 18, 1941, at St. Louis to the former Miss Grace Evadeen Bassett, and to this union three children were born.  Clarence and Grace celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 18, 1991, with a celebration held at First Baptist Church, Dixon.  Grace preceded him in death on April 9, 1992.  He was later married to Erma Collier Bassett, who survives.  In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his father on March 25, 1936; his mother on  February 12, 1964; seven brothers, Fred Allen Martin on March 24, 1968; Elbert Chesley Martin on September 5, 1980; Samuel Everett Martin on November 11, 1969; George Washington Martin on March 20, 1990; James Virgil Martin on October 27, 1987; Charles Clinton Martin on August 15, 1980; and Raymond Woodrow Martin on October 28, 1972; and two sisters, Jessie Aline Martin on June 24, 1901; and Mary Martin on June 22, 1918.
 
Clarence accepted Christ during a revival service at First Baptist Church, Dixon with Dr. Vine as the evangelist.  He was baptized on October 22, 1939, by the Rev. Edwin E. Baur in the Maries Creek on the George W. Martin farm near Dixon.  Clarence was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon for many years and at the time of his passing was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vienna.  He was a United States Army World War II Veteran, a member of the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon for over 60 years, and had served a total of 18 years on the Santee and Dixon School Boards.  He was elected to the Santee School Board in 1952 for a three-year term.  It was during this term the Santee was consolidated into the Dixon school system.  Clarence retired from the Dixon School Board in 1971 after serving five three-year terms.
 
 
Clarence and Grace lived in Wellston, Missouri, until he was drafted into the Army on September 18, 1942.  He served his basic training at Camp Bowie in Brownwood, Texas.  He also trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, at Camp Howze in Gainsville, Texas; and at Kilmer, New Jersey.  He shipped overseas on the Uruguay from New York Harbor on August 11, 1944.  Clarence served in Service Battery 692nd Field Artillery Battalion and was a part of the 54 Section which hauled supplies.  He drove a truck in France, Germany and Belgium.  Clarence was in Europe for ten months before he was hospitalized with surgery and was transferred back to the United States.  Private First Class Martin was honorably discharged from Shick General Hospital near Clinton, Iowa on August 10, 1945.  He was entitled to wear the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.
 
Clarence and Grace returned to St. Louis to live where he was employed by Wagner Electric for a short time.  On October 22, 1945, he began his career with Civil Service at Fort Leonard Wood driving a truck out of the post motor pool.  Clarence also got living quarters in family housing, and he and Grace moved to 4C
Waynesville Street.

They lived there for about ten months until the Army decided to tear down the temporary housing.  He and Grace moved into the permanent housing section at 41C
Rolla Street.

In April of 1946, they purchased their house and acreage on Highway 133 north of Dixon in Maries County and lived at Fort Leonard Wood during the week and at the farm on the weekends.  This continued until January of 1947 when Clarence was furloughed from Fort Leonard Wood.  He went back to St. Louis and was employed by Sherman Construction as a truck driver for a brief time.  During May and June of 1947, Clarence painted houses around Dixon until he was called back to Fort Leonard Wood in July of 1947.

Returning to Fort Leonard Wood after his furlough, Clarence drove a truck for the warehouse out of the post motor pool.  In December of 1948, he was transferred to the Post Engineers Carpenter Shop as a “loaner” to build targets for ranges.  He worked there for two weeks when the foreman, Jess Woods, requested that he be transferred permanently.  Clarence worked there until his retirement on December 31, 1976, just two days after his 55th birthday.  He finished with 32 years in Civil Service and 3 years in the Army for a total of 35 years service.
 
Clarence is further survived by: three children, Dennis Ralph and wife, Joann (Fantauzzi) Martin, parents of Dr. Deanna Marie (Martin) and husband, Dr. Jeremiah E. Freedman, parents of Isaac Freedman;  and Christopher Ralph Martin Esq. and wife, Terri (Emmerich) Martin, parents of Abigail and Loralei Martin;  David Howard and Gloria (Dake) Martin, parents of David H. Martin, Jr., father of Grace Martin and Meredith Loraine (Martin) and husband, Leo H. Kloeppel, parents of Landon and Ava Kloeppel; and Lucinda “Cindy” Elaine (Martin) and husband, Donnie Curty, parents of Jason Edward Curty and Leann Amanda Curty, and many other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services were conducted for Clarence at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, in the First Baptist Church, Dixon, with Rev. Richard D. Interment with full military honors provided by members (Bill Robbins, Basil Rushing, Ben Hammock, Rodney Yoakum, David Martin, and Bob Leonard) of the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon, was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.  Active pallbearers were David H. Martin, Jr., Christopher R. Martin, Jason E. Curty, Leo H. Kloeppel, Martin Crider, David Bexten, Roy Plassmeyer, and Larry Kampeter.  Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jeremiah E. Freedman, Louis A. Martin, Edward Martin, Morris Martin, Norman Martin, Stanley Martin, Carl Martin, Ronald D. Martin, Douglas Martin, Morris “Lefty” Martin, Catherine Barnhart Hutchison, Charles Bassett, Grover Johnson, Clay Vogt, William B. Harrison, Walter Dickens, Paul Beydler, Leo Kleffner, Kenneth Forrest, and Roger Rose.

James E. Martin 1949-2009

James Edward Martin, son of the late Noel M. and Evelyn (Barlow) Martin, was born December 7, 1949 in Waynesville, Missouri where his dad was a former Waynesville Police Department Chief. James graduated from Waynesville High School in 1968. As a young boy, James became a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville.

After graduation, James attended University of Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma and earned his Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming. He became employed by Brodrick & Bascon Steel Rope Co. as a computer programmer in St. Louis then as an instructor of computer programming for two years. He worked for Keen Operation Company at Labodie Power Plant in heavy equipment for five years. Then began working as a data processor for an accounting firm and went to Texas Central College and earned his accounting degree. He was employed by Paul Mustion Accounting Firm for eight years.

He was also a business owner for several years. He owned RJS Construction Company and PCC Construction Company with two friends. He became employed by EG&G Defense Facility where he worked for nine years before having to retire in January of 2009 due to medical reasons.

On June 15, 2002, James was united in marriage to Delbra Kay Perkins in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over seven years together and many wonderful memories.

In his spare time, James enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting or shooting. He liked to travel and watched sports. Some would say that he was indeed a sports fanatic. James helped form the Old Stage Coach Foundation, was a member of the Community Betterment Association for 14 years and helped annually with Old Settler’s Day in Waynesville.

The one thing that James enjoyed doing more than anything, was spending time with his family. He was a fiercely protective father and doting husband and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

James passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in his home at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 11 days.

James will be sadly missed by fondly remembered by his wife, Delbra Kay Martin of the home; one daughter: Michelle Varcho (Nick) of Jefferson City, MO; one son: Nathan Martin of Crocker, MO; two step-sons: Anthony Perkins (Dawn) of Dixon, IL and Barry Perkins (Danna) of Rolla, MO; one brother: Harold Martin of Waynesville, MO; half-sister: Judy Brown (Benny) of Crocker, MO; brother-in-law: Bob Stankiewicz; 5 ½ grandchildren: Eric Shane Varcho, Jazmine, Trevor, Drake and Aleya Perkins with one on the way, James Michael Varcho; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters: Brenda Abney and Pat Stankiewicz.

Memorial services were held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. Family friend, Janet Sands read the obituary and other family friends, Gordon Rigsby and Paul Herbig recalled their wonderful memories of James. The songs “I Can Only Imagine”, “Tears in Heaven” and “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” were played. Serving as honorary escorts were Dave Dodds, Gordon Rigsby, John Herbig, Gary Mayor, Don Hutchison, Bill Spring, Karl Duncan and Charlie Sands. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James Martin to the Phelps County Hospice and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory.

Thomas Henry Roberson d. August 8, 1982

Thomas Henry Roberson was born in Maries County, Missouri, the son of John Franklin and Viola Martin Roberson and passed away in his home in Dixon on Sunday morning, August 8, 1982. He had attained the age of 75 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

He was a member of the Arlington Lodge No. 346 A.F. & A.M. of Dixon and was a retired employee of the City of Dixon.

Funeral services were held in the Long Gilbert Chapel in Dixon on Tuesday, August 10, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of Long Gilbert Chapel of Dixon.

Serving as pallbearers were Masonic Brothers, Gene Burns, Paul Lindsay, Warden Russell, Bruce Richey, Don Helton, and Lloyd Evans. Masonic services were given on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. by Arlington Lodge of Dixon.

He is survived by his wife Chloe of the home in Dixon, two sons, John Roberson of Granite City, Illinois and Clay and daughter-in-law, Mary Roberson of New Boston, Texas, four grandchildren, Elaine Wilkinson, Geg, Jeff, and DeAnna Roberson, two great grandchildren, Tracy and Ryan Wilkinson, one aunt, Mrs. Mae Nelson of Granite City, Illinois with many cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Ernest and one sister, Mary Burns.

John Capris Rollins 1869-1956

John C. Rollins, Pioneer Citizen, Businessman, Died Monday Morning
Funeral Services Held Yesterday

An overflowing crowd was present yesterday afternoon at the Waynesville Baptist Church to pay last respects to one of Pulaski County’s leading citizens. John C. Rollins, who passed away at the Waynesville General Hospital early Monday morning.

Mr. Rollins, who was nearly 87 years of age, had suffered a heart attack on Friday of last week and was taken to the hospital here.

John C. Rollins, who was a member of a Pulaski County family, was born on a farm about twelve miles west of this city, in the Bellefonte neighborhood. In 1916 Mr. Rollins moved to Waynesville and purchased the Hardware store from Mr. Christeson. He operated the store for thirty years.

Mr. Rollins, who had long been active in the Baptist Church, was a senior deacon in the church here at the time of his death. Only last week this newspaper published an article written by Mr. Rollins about the Baptist Church History in this area.

Mr. Rollins was a familiar figure in this city, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. When he and his family moved to Waynesville, they moved to the home in the northeast corner of the square and on pleasant evenings Mr. Rollins could be sitting out in his yard visiting with his many friends who stopped to chat a while with this beloved gentleman.

The Democrat joins with a host of other friends in expressing our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

Following is the obituary for Mr. Rollins:

John C. Rollins, son of James M. and Sarah J. Rollins was born at Bellefonte, Missouri, November 24, 1869 and passed away at the Waynesville General Hospital on September 3, 1956 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 10 days.

On November 24,1889 he was united in marriage to William Ann Johnson and to this union seven children were born. At the age of 15 years he professed his faith in Christ and in 1916 transferred his membership to the Waynesville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rollins passed away January 2, 1953.

He leaves to mourn his passing three daughters, Stella Pearson and Eula Burchard of Waynesville and Grace Howlett of Laquey, Missouri. Four sons, James D. of Laquey, Thomas B. of Gary, Indiana, John W. of Springfield, Missouri, and Sterling J. of Waynesville, also 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 5, 1956 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Baptist Church with the Reverend B.R. Tatum officiating.

Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Stella Mae (Martin) Thomas 1920-2008

Stella Mae Thomas, 88, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the late Charlie and Rosa (Brown) Martin, was born March 2, 1920, in Dixon, Mo. She died Nov. 8, 2008, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Stella spent her working years as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
She is survived by: two sons, Bob Gregory and wife Wanda of Gallatin, Tenn., and Steve Maguffee of Salem; one daughter, Kathy Phillips and husband Joe of Anchorage, Alaska; son-in-law, Carl King of Thayer, Mo.; one sister, Bessie Roberts of Jonesoro, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Craig Maguffee, Tyler Maguffee, Dustin Maguffee, Meghan Maguffee, Tammy Massey, Anita Durham, Ronda Nakoa and Ginger Buck; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ted Thomas; parents; daughter, Judy King; grandson, Greg King; two brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at the Salem Church of Christ in Salem with Bro. David Gibson and Bro. Mike Yates officiating. Interment followed in the Camp Cemetery at Camp, Ark., under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
Pallbearers were Gene Martin, Rayford Martin, Mike Martin, Keith Martin, Paul Fulfer and Marty Roberts.
Memorials are preferred to the Salem Church of Christ.

Dorothea "Dottie" Mae (Coffin) Martin 1926-2005

Dorothea "Dottie" Mae Martin, of Dixon, Missouri was born on
January 30, 1926, in the city of St Louis, Missouri, a daughter of
Wallace David and Verda Lee (Compton) Coffin, and departed this life
at 2:48 a.m., Sunday, February 27, 2005, at her residence in Dixon.
She had been in failing health for some time and had attained the
age of 79 years, and 25 days.
Mrs. Martin was united in marriage on November 17, 1946, at St.
John's, Missouri, to Edgar Carl Martin, and to this union three sons
were born. She was preceded in death by her father in April 1983,
her mother on March 22, 1985 and one brother, David Coffin in April
1993.
Mrs. Martin had accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vienna and a member of
the Gideon Auxiliary.
Mrs. Martin enjoyed writing children's stories and poems,
traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was
a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Martin include: her
husband, Ed Martin, of the home, Dixon; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Ed Jr. and Kathy Martin, Webster Groves, Missouri,
Donald J. "Jeff' and Susan M. Martin, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Steve
and Anita Martin, Dixon, Missouri.
One brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Connie Coffin, Oakland,
Missouri; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Earl Smith,
Hallsville, Missouri and Ruth and Charles Kutscher, Fabius, New
York.
Thirteen grandchildren, Ed III, Andrew, Philip, Hannah, Amy,
Joshua, Daniel, Emma Lea, Christianne, Elizabeth, Stephen, Jedidiah
and Samuel; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica; and a host
of family and friends.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs.
Martin will indeed be sadly missed by her family and all who knew
and loved her.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Martin at 10 a.m., on
Friday, March 4, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, Vienna, Missouri
with Rev. Cameron R. Moles, pastor, officiating.
A poem was read, titled "The Right Choice" written by Mrs.
Martin. Two songs, "In The Garden" and "Beulah Land", were sung by
Lisa Applegate and Angela Moles. One congregational song, "Amazing
Grace" was led by Rena Stark, First Baptist Church Choir Director,
for the funeral service.
Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, Dixon, Missouri, under the
direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral
Homes.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Martin were Edgar Martin III, Joshua Martin,
Keith Gaffing, Phillip Martin, Daniel Smith, and Paul Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Feeler, Ellis Crum Jr., George Wadlow,
Gary Applegate, Ed House, and Billy Cloyde.
