Gustavus A. Schneider (1850-1907)

The subject of this brief sketch, Gustavus A. Schneider, was born in Faos, Cole county, Missouri, July 25, 1850, and departed this life in Dixon, Missouri, at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, December 25, 1907, aged 57 years and 5 months.

Bro. Schneider came to Dixon in 1871, and on Feb. 7, 1875, was united in marriage to Mary J. Baker, near Dixon.  To this union were born two sons and three daughters, all of whom survive and live in Dixon, save, Mrs. Roach, who resides in Rolla.

About 13 years ago Bro. Schneider identified himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Dixon, of which church he remained a consistent member till God called him home.
He was also a member of the I. O. O. F.; of the Masonic Fraternity and the Modern Woodman of America.

For about two years Bro. Schneider had been in bad health, but most of that time was able to get around and look after his business.  On Saturday night, December 21, he was taken suddenly ill, between 10 and 11 o’clock.  He was stricken with paralysis and lingered till nearly midnight of the following Wednesday, when he set sail for the Better Country.  He leaves a sorrowing wife, five children, four brothers and three sisters to mourn his loss.

The funeral service was conducted by the writer at the family residence on Friday at 2:00 p.m., after which all that was mortal of Gustavus A. Schneider was laid to rest in the cemetery near Dixon.

Bro. Schneider was a plain, unassuming man, quiet in his disposition, a loving husband, an affectionate father, a warm-hearted brother, a good citizen, and a Christian gentleman, and will be sadly missed by the good people of Dixon and vicinity.

The writer would join the entire community in expressions of heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved family and all the sorrowing relatives.
