Herbert Fred Henry Goosen 1925-2009

Herbert Fred Henry Goosen passed away November 8, 2009 in the Christian Health Care Facility, North, Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 84 years and 4 months.

Herb was born July 8, 1925 in Benton County, near Cole Camp, Missouri. He was the youngest son of four children born to the union of the late John and Ida (Frisch) Goosen.

Herb grew up in Benton County where he attended Dillon School and the Lutheran School. Even as a young boy, Herb worked long, hard hours on the family farm, a lifestyle and work ethic that would serve him well throughout his life.

Herb had a wide range of skills, working in several laundry and dry cleaners: Fashion Dry Cleaners in Jefferson City, Rice's Cleaners in Waynesville. He owned and operated Iberia Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Iberia and Crocker. He also worked as a funeral director and drove an ambulance. Herb served as a police officer in Crocker and as an assistant chief of police in Richland. He also drove a school bus for Richland Schools and retired as a corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections. He enjoyed horses, whether riding, showing, trading or breaking them, as well as working his mules with their wagons. In his later years, he loved four wheeling and spending time visiting with friends at the Warren Senior Center in Richland.

On April 7, 1946, Herb was united in marriage with Mary Laverne Attwood, and to this union four children were born: Joyce, Linda, Danny and David. Mary preceded Herb in death on July 15, 2008.

Herb is survived by his four children: Joyce Goosen of Sweet Springs, MO, Linda McLean and her husband Charlie of Buckner, MO, Danny Goosen and his wife Meghan of Philadelphia, PA and David Goosen of Portland, OR; five grandchildren: Nathan McLean and his wife Taryn, Aaron McLean and his wife Amy, Mary Boese and her husband Justin, Chad Clark and Deserrai Davis: four great grandchildren: Tarah, Alyssa, Hunter and Dani; many other relatives and friends.

Herb was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Kalen Clark, three sisters: Idella Williams, Selma Eidson and Stella Rambow.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 13, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland with Rev. Daniel Garcia officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace", "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" and "I'll Fly Away" were played. Serving as escorts were Nathan McLean, Aaron McLean, Chad Clark, John Kullman, Francis Hobbs, Justin Boese, Junior Holloway and Clyde Jones.

Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Garcia reading the poem "I'm Free". Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Herb Goosen to the Warren Senior Center of Richland or the Regional Hospice of Lebanon.
