Byron Maxwell Eldredge 1913-2007

Byron Maxwell Eldredge, a life-long resident of Waynesville passed away on Father's Day, June 17, 2007, at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 16 days. Born in Waynesville December 1, 1913 to attorney Harry O. and Mae Lena (Sternaugle) Eldredge, he attended Waynesville High School (Class of 1931), and the Rolla School of Mines.

He and his loving wife, Hester (Harrison) Eldredge were inseparable, and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 11.

Byron was Waynesville's Assistant Postmaster and Superintendent of Mails, for over 42 years. He served as Municipal Judge of Waynesville, Chairman of the Board of the Lake Ozark Area Home Health Agency, Chairman of the Board and General Superintendent of Waynesville United Methodist Church, Worshipful Master and Marshal of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM, Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Hansen Chapter #22, Grand Jury Foreman Circuit Court of Pulaski County and much more.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Harriet Eldredge Wickersham and his brothers, Maze and William Maurice Eldredge.

He is survived by his wife, Hester of the home; son, Gary Eldredge and wife, Wendy of New Orleans, LA, many nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in the Waynesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Londia Grainger Wright officiating. Pianist Laura Matthews accompanied Soloist Rachel Bell as she sang "Blessed Assurance" and Soloist Lindel Gore as he sang "Amazing Grace". Serving as escorts were David and Dallas Ernst, David Harbaugh, Robert Rice, Richard Baptiste, John Schultz, Lindel Gore and David Elliott. Serving as honorary escorts were Cindy Gore, Sherry Ernst, and David Johnson.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery with an Eastern Star Hansen Chapter #22 and the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM services. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Byron Eldredge to the Waynesville United Methodist Church and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.
