Engra Arkatie (West) Nelson 1901-1981

Engra Arkatie Nelson, of Dixon, was born on July 27, 1901 in Maries County, Missouri, a daughter of James Hardy and Anna Murgrada Peterson West, and departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 1981, at the family residence, Dixon, following a lengthy illness.  Mrs. Nelson had attained the age of 79 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Mrs. Nelson was united in marriage on August 2, 1922, near Dixon, to Robert Onslow Nelson, and to this union, two sons and four daughters were born.  She was a member of the High Point Church of God, near Dixon.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Nelson include:  Her devoted husband, Onslow Nelson, of the home, Dixon; two sons, Lawrence Nelson, Aurora, Nebraska, and Fred Nelson, Denver, Colorado; four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Stauffer, Dixon, Mrs. Jane Miles, Patterson, Mrs. Anna Eaton, Bonne Terre, and Mrs. Stella Caselton, Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Claude West and Amos West, both of Dixon; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Oakes, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ethel Nelson, Mrs. Dola Bacon and Mrs. Anna Belle Alexander, all of Dixon; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Mrs. Nelson will indeed be sadly missed by her dear family and all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Nelson at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 1981, at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. James Bailey, High Point Church of God, near Dixon, officiating.

Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.  Pallbearers were Dan Stauffer, Stephen Stauffer, Robert Nelson, Wesley Eaton, Ivan Eaton and Philip Eaton.  Honorary pallbearers were Dean Nelson, Neal Nelson, Dale Nelson, Lee Miles and Mark Miles.
