Edgar Gene Diaz Negrete 1993-2004

In 1998, Edgar Gene Diaz Negrete came to Waynesville, Missouri to live with his family, 1SG (Ret) Edgar Gilbert and Sondra (Shivers) Negrete, and their children, Gilbert, Benjamin, Xavier, Melissa, Maggie and Michelle. Eddie was born December 24, 1993 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Eddie was a fourth grade student at East Elementary School in Waynesville. He loved baseball and being a cub scout. He was baptized and received his first holy communion at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, where he was anxiously awaiting the construction of the new youth activities center.

Eddie went home to the Lord the afternoon of December 2, 2004 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the age of 10 years, 11 months and 8 days. His family and friends will always remember his infectious smile and big beautiful brown eyes.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents: Gilbert and Sondra Negrete of the home; three brothers: Gilbert Negrete of the state of Colorado, Benjamin Negrete of San Diego, CA and Xavier Negrete of Chicago, IL; three sisters: Melissa Pulliam and her husband, Gerald of Rolla, MO, and Maggie and Michelle Negrete of the home; maternal grandmother: Eleanor Shivers of St. Robert, MO; paternal grandmother: Phyllis Ramirez of Aurora, IL; maternal great grandmother: Myrtle Long of Waynesville, MO; paternal great grandmother: Gregoria Fernandez of Aurora, IL; Godparents: David and Connie Negrete of Chicago, IL; ten nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and many friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Shivers; paternal grandfather, Fortino Negrete; maternal great grandfather, Elmer Long and his paternal great grandfather, Benjamin Negrete.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 6, 2004 in the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with Father John Groner, Father Bob Wein and Chaplain Bleboo officiating with the assistance of Dorothy McGuire, Charlotte Voudrie and Linda Nalley. Leading prayers of the faithful was Eddie's aunt Cecilia Campos. Organist Evelyn Horine and flutist Cheryl Vise accompanied Charlene O'Neill, Suzanne Bascher and Eddie's sister, Michelle Negrete, as they led the congregation in singing. Midge Bohrer, Ed Flannigan, Barbara Belleville, Jim Nalley and Hector Mitchell assisted with serving the communion. Eddie's sister, Melissa Negrete read scripture and his Godparents, David and Connie Negrete presented offeratory gifts. Greg Creach and Mark Milka gave beautiful eulogies. Serving as escorts were Jorge Compos, George Cottrell, Greg Creach, Mark Milka, Dave Negrete, Rich Negrete, Gerald Pulliam and Elmer Shivers. Serving as honorary escorts were Rich Negrete, Jr. and Matthew Milka.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
