James Leonard Coates 1912-2007

James Leonard Coates, son of the late William Henry and Elizabeth (Huff) Coates, was born June 22, 1912 in Joplin, Missouri where he grew up and attended school.

On March 18, 1955, Leonard married the love of his life, Arizona B. Koonce in Richland, Missouri. They shared 52 years of marriage together and were blessed with two children: Leslie and Bill.

Leonard was a business owner and operated his own TV and Appliance sales and repair shop for over 43 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors; whether it was fishing, skiing, gardening or traveling. He was a member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM. Most importantly, he treasured the times that he could spend with his family and friends.

Leonard passed away at 10:12 P.M. Sunday, March 18, 2007 in the Brooke Haven Healthcare Center of West Plains, Missouri at the age of 94 years,

Leonard leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Arizona B. Coates of the home; 2 children: Leslie J. Coates and his wife, Sy of San Diego, CA and Bill Coates of Lebanon, MO; 2 grandchildren: Alison Shannon and her husband, David of West Plains, MO and Billy Coates and his wife, Beth of Harbor Beach, MI; 4 great grandchildren: Johnathan and Joshua Willis, Jennifer Shannon and Paige Coates; several other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 21, 2007 in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Serving as escorts were David Shannon, Joshua Willis, Johnathan Willis and Billy Coates. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Leonard Coates to the Waynesville/St. Robert Senior Citizen's Center and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.
