Nancy Evelena (Ashworth) McKinnon 1922-2004

Nancy Evelena McKinnon, daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth Jane (Robbins) Ashworth was born April 26, 1922 in Elexio, Oklahoma.

On August 17, 1940, Nancy was united in marriage with James A. McKinnon at the Gospel Ridge Church parsonage. They shared 52 memorable years together and were blessed with three children: Wesley James, Rowena Lea and Richard Wayne. James preceded her in death on May 28, 1992.

Most people remember Nancy as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital for 30 years. She was very active in her community by serving as St. Robert City Alderwoman from 1992 until 2000 and was also a member of the MO Farm Bureau Association for over 35 years.

Nancy enjoyed gardening and tomatoes were her specialty. She took great pleasure in working with her hands, whether it was sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting or other crafts that she could find to do. Most importantly, she treasured the times that she could spend with her children and her grandchildren.

Nancy passed away at 11:07 AM Thursday, January 15, 2004 at her home in St. Robert, having attained the age of 81 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Nancy will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by one son: Richard McKinnon and his wife, Kristie; one daughter: Rowena L. Sheek, all of Waynesville; four sisters; 8 grandchildren: Jimmy McKinnon, Mary Lienemann, Christy Bashaw, Christy Rogers, Mike Sheek, Richie McKinnon, Melissa McKinnon and Nickie McKinnon; 11 great grandchildren: Buddy Garrett, Andy McKinnon, Brett McKinnon, Zachary McKinnon, Shaun McKinnon, Jennifer Jackman, Cory-kyle Bashaw, Robbie Bashaw, Brian Rogers, Jaden Rogers and Veronica Rogers; 1 great-great grandchild: Nicholas Garrett; several other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by one son: Wesley J. McKinnon.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Shaw officiating. Pianist Lisa Schwandt played as soloist Laura Light sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be". Nancy's granddaughter, Nikki McKinnon sang "Jesus Loves Me". Serving as escorts were Mike Sheek, Jr., Alex Neuman, Shaun McKinnon, Keith Pritchard, George Beasley and Kevin Pritchard.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Nancy McKinnon to the Phelps County Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.
