Howard Edward Wolf, Sr. 1921-2009

Howard Edward Wolf, Sr., of Dixon, was born on October 19, 1921, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a son of George Porter and Lucy Catherine (Park) Wolf and departed this life at 10:25 p.m., Friday evening, April 24, 2009, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Wolf had attained the age of 87 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Mr. Wolf was united in marriage on October 13, 1940, at Dixon, to Blanche Marie Crum and to this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 14, 2002, one daughter, Jody Whitten on March 6, 2004; his parents; one grandson, Jeff Virgin on May 11, 1987; two sisters, Ruth Saltzman and Pauline Terry; and one son-in-law, Bob Johnson on May 18, 2001.

Mr. Wolf was a United States Army veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon for over 60 years. He had worked as an accountant at Fort Leonard Wood, retiring in 1976. Mr. Wolf enjoyed gardening, going to football games, and to car dealerships with his son, Foxy. He enjoyed traveling and had been in all the states except Hawaii. He had enjoyed fishing in Canada for the past 50 years and spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Wolf include: one son and daughter-in-law, Howard, Jr. “Foxy” and Marlene Wolf, Dixon; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Marlene Johnson, Dixon; Patty and Larry Williams, Lee’s Summit; Lynn Whitten, Dixon; six grandchildren, Keri, Tim, Lindsay, Morgan, Alicia and Jordan; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Wolf at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009, in the First Baptist Church, Dixon, with Rev. Brandon McCombs, pastor, officiating. The congregation, led by Rocky Carroll, sang ‘Victory In Jesus” and Nancy and Ray Baker sang “What A Day That Will Be”, for the funeral service.

Interment with full military honors was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Wolf were Jon Ray, Logan Ray, Chris Walters, Devon Casady, Andy Hughes and Rick Shannon. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Wolf, Larry Ramey, George Ramey, Dale Ramey, Winston Alexander, Lawrence Clasby, Ray Baker and Matt Rydberg. Military honors were provided by the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested by the family to the First Baptist Church, Dixon with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home.
