As the alternate names imply, Green Cemetery is the final resting place for several family members of both the Gaddy and George families. The earliest stone still standing, that is legible, belongs to Lizzie D. George, infant daughter of Charles Adolphus George and Martha A. George, who passed away 29 September 1897. The most recent tombstone belongs to Lizzie’s father, Charles, a farmer, who died 8 February, 1940, at the age of 83 years. Most of the stones date to the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. Members of the Gaddy family were interred here between the years of 1887 and 1892. Other surnames buried here are Christesson, Collier, Jones, Shelton, and Smith.

Most of these stones were still standing when I lived on he property. They were not knocked down as thought by flooding as water has only barely gotten in there as long as I can remember. The actual damage was done When Richard Mckinnon the last owner of the property had someone come in with equipment to (Clean) it up and they destroyed it. IT was beautiful as a child and he let it grow up after his dad passed and his sister (Rowena) and husband moved off the property and no longer cared for it.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean there is no cemetery left? I just moved here and wanted to see where my mom's family were buried. Abner Gaddy was my GGG grandfather. I'm sad not to get to see it. Cindy
