Stanley Lee Hayes 1929-2009

Stanley Lee Hayes, of Dixon, was born on June 24, 1929, in Maries County, a son of Samuel Levi and Nora Edna (Bullock) Hayes, and departed this life at 7:05 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009, in the University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Mr. Hayes had attained the age of 80 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Mr. Hayes was united in marriage on August 5, 1955, at St. Louis, to Miss Lilly Lorene Vaughan and to this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his father in June 1962 and his mother in June 1938.

Mr. Hayes was a United States Army veteran from 1950 to 1952, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon serving as Deacon of the church from 1967 to the present. He was one of the founding investors of the Banister Bank, Kansas City; and he and Roy Hayes were co-owners and operators of Hayes Ford Dealership in 1955. Mr. Hayes had worked for Production Credit Association for 14 years, later serving on the board of directors for 10 years, was a lifelong cattleman and co-founder and manager of the South Central Livestock Market. He was a Past President of the Dixon Lions Club and the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon, having served as Commander.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Hayes include: his wife, Lorene Hayes, Dixon; one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Becky Hayes, Springfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda Harper and Gina and David Shuler, all of Springfield; three brothers, Hursel Hayes, Dixon; Harold Hayes and Jim Hayes, both of Rolla; one sister, Nadine Asmus, Dixon; five grandchildren, Samantha, Noah, Jack, Courtney and Tyler; three great grandchildren, Lily, Madison and Kale; and many other relatives and friends.

Vistation will be from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in the First Baptist Church, Dixon.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Hayes at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, in the First Baptist Church, Dixon, with Pastor Karen Alden, Vienna-Rader United Methodist Church, Vienna and Pastor Brandon McCombs, First Baptist Church, Dixon, officiating. The Harold Rowden Family sung “Amazing Grace” , “The Far Side Banks of Jordan” and “In The Sweet Bye and Bye” for the funeral service.

Interment with full military honors was in the Kenner Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Hayes were Danny Milligan, Frank Hurst, Ron Calhoun, Lawrence Buschman, Kevin Shepherd and Lewis Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Kirk King, Jerry Milligan, Terry Alexander, Norman Nichols, Jim Alexander, Bill Harrison, Norman Porter, Rocky Carroll and Ray Baker. Military honors were provided by members of the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested by the family to the Children’s Miracle Network with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.
