Joseph Albert McPherson 1941-2007

Joseph Albert McPherson, son of the late Joseph McPherson and Lucille (Roberts)Meece was born May 24, 1941 in Danville, IL where he grew up, attended school and graduated from Danville High School.

On August 28, 1967, Joe was united in marriage to Gisela Emmerich in Darmstadt, Germany. They shared over 39 years of marriage together and were blessed with six children: Joseph Allen, Tamira, Heidrun, Birgit, Robert and John.

In 1959, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country faithfully for 20 years until his retirement in 1979. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. While serving in the Army, Joe earned many awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Meritorious Service Medal, along with several badges.

In his spare time, Joe enjoyed being outdoors; whether it was hunting, fishing or shooting. He liked to read, collect different things and play with his many dogs and cats. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

Joe passed away the morning of Friday, March 30, 2007 in the St. John's Regional Health Center of Springfield, Missouri at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Joe will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his wife, Gisela of the home; three sons; three daughters; one sister: JoAnne Vyse of Covington, IN; one brother: Carl Meece of Danville, IL; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services with military honors were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 3, 2007 in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain (CPT) Arleigh Von Seggern. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St Robert.
