Walter Koch 1915-2006

Walter Koch, son of the late Fred and Inga (Selbach) Koch was born December 10, 1915 in Wuppertal, Germany.

Walter departed this life the evening of July 5, 2006 at St. Johns Regional Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 25 days.

In 1923, Walter's family immigrated to the United States, living in Oconee, Nebraska. They soon moved to Laclede County, Missouri, settling on a farm at Orla Mills. While living in the U.S., Walter drove a school bus, and worked his farm and the mill.

In the early 1950's, Walter was united in marriage with Elizabeth Mittinzwei-Berndt in Boden, Arkansas. This union was blessed with two sons, Robert and Frederick. Elizabeth preceded Walter in death in 1961.

Walter moved back to Germany in 1974 where he worked for a short time at Brunnacker Grocer before retiring from the Peek-Cloppenberg Department Store warehouse in 1995. Walter moved back to the U.S. in 1996 where he made his home until his death.

Walter enjoyed gardening and reading. He also enjoyed writing, and had been writing a book for some time.

Walter will be sadly missed by two sons: Robert Cook of Waynesville and Fredrick Koch of Germany; one sister: Inga Ozee of Waynesville; one granddaughter: Sally Marie Wickop-Koch along with several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 10, 2006 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The song "Peace In The Valley" was played. Serving as escorts were family and friends.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Walter Koch and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.
