Dewey Smith SR. 1897-1985


SERVICES FOR DEWEY D. SMITH, SR., 88, Springfield, a former Sarcoxie resident who died Sunday at a Springfield nursing home, are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Greenlawn North Funeral Home, Springfield.
The Rev. Jerry Humble and the Rev. Wayne Pennell will officiate. Burial will be in Sweeten Pond Cemetery near Dora. The family plans to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born August 5, 1897, in Ozark County. He was a retired Methodist minister. He was a pastor in churches in Ozark, Douglas and Lawrence counties. He had lived in the Sarcoxie area for ten years and was a member of the Sarcoxie Fundamentalist Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Smith; six sons; Sampson Smith, LaRussell Smith, and Prentiss Smith of Springfield, Claudie Smith, Sarcoxie, Dewie Smith, Jr., Spring Branch Texas, James Smith, Zanoni, and Everett Smith, Carthage; three daughters, Sylvia Rhodes,
Republic, Pauline Noble, Springfield, and Wilma Duncan, Hobart, IN; one brother, Henry Smith, Mountain Home AR; three sisters, Elvira Kirkland and Martha Hall, both of West Plains, and Mary Davis, Topeka, KS; 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
