Estelle Ophelia Bates 1894-1990

Estelle Ophelia Bates, of Waynesville, daughter of Larkin Rufus Bates and Mary Alice (Howard) Bates, was born October 17, 1894, in Waynesville, MO. She went to be with her Lord May 27, 1990, at Waynesville, MO, at the age of 95.
One of five children, Estelle and her two sisters and two brothers grew up and attended school in Waynesville. Upon graduation, Estelle moved to St. Louis, MO, where she went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad. After retirement, she moved to Springfield, MO, where she lived until 1978, when she came back to Waynesville. Estelle was a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesville.
Estelle was a dear, sweet lady who was very loved by her family and many friends. They will miss her greatly.
Survivors include three nephews, Donald Bowman of Sherman Oaks, CA, Robert Bowman of Vista, CA, and Clare Bates of Van Buren, AR; and one niece, Blanche Mace of Springfield, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel, with her pastor, Virgil White, officiating. Soloist Karen Hayes sang two of Estelle's favorites, "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me." She was accompanied by organist Dorothy Moore.
Serving as escorts were Clare Bates, Donald Bowman, Bill House, C. W. Parker, and Kenton Wagner.
Burial was in the Crocker Memorial Park Cemetery, Crocker, MO. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
