He married Mattie Lee Bass in 1938.
As a young man he served in the United States Army. In the early 1960's he owned and operated Hewitt's Sinclair Station in St. Robert, and later worked with Mid-Missouri Motors from 1968 to 1980, after which he retired. He was known as "Baby Huey."
He is survived by one daughter, Evaline Whitley, and one son, Samuel Hewitt, both of Dallas TX; and one brother, Charles Hewitt of Dallas TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Lula Hewitt.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 1990, in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery, with Chaplain Vern Jordin officiating. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
