Leander R. Gildewell (1895-1990)

Leander R. Gildewell, 94, of Waynesville, died Sunday, July 29, 1990 at Sunset Village of the Ozarks. The son of Nelson and Sarah Abigail (Garret) Gildewell, he was born October 15, 1895, at Milan MO.
Mr. Gildewell, or "Lee" as he was best known, lived around the Milan-St. Joseph area, where he also attended school.
In 1939 he married Flossie Gildewell. She preceded him in death in 1968.
Mr. Gildewell was a veteran of WWI. He was a deputy sheriff in northern Missouri many years ago, but he spent most of his working life as a boiler engineer. One of the highlights of his life was getting to play professional baseball with a minor league team in Milan.
Survivors include three sons, Russell of Seattle WA, Ron of Dayton OH, and Tom of Rolla; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 3, at the Ashland Cemetery in St. Joseph, with Rev. Gene Albright officiating. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
