CARROLL DEAN SHORT, 1943-1990

Carroll Dean Short, 46, of Waynesville, died Friday, Sept. 14, 1990, at Springfield, MO. The son of Glen Short, Sr., and Mary E. (Juenger) Short, he was born at Carmi, IL, on Nov. 26, 1943.
Mr. Short grew up and attended school in the Fairfield, IL area. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Fairfield, but since moving to Waynesville he attended the Waynesville United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 21, 1971, he married Barbara Isabelle (Sifford) Hoffman.
Mr. Short served more than 14 years in the U. S. Army, most of that time as a heavy equipment operator. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1980. He was a member of the Francis J. Lynch Memorial VFW Post 3168 and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 49. At the time of his death, Mr. Short was a Waynesville Police Department officer/dispatcher. He also did some part-time backhoe work in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; his mother, Mary Short of Fairfield; two daughters, Kathryn Perry of La Habra, CA; and Janice Dennison of Troutdale, OR; two sons, James Hoffman of Marina CA and Richard Hoffman of Waynesville; three brothers, Charles Juenger of Florida, Steve Short of Norris City IL, and Glen Short Jr. of Centralia IL; three sisters, Scarlett Imhoff of Peoria IL, and Janice Sanders and Kaye Book, both of Fairfield IL; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Short Sr.
Francis H. Lynch Memorial VFW Post 3168 held services at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Commander Bill Hammock officiating.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jess Norris officiating. Escorts were Larry Brown, Robert "Buck" Brown, Harold Conner, Richard Hoffman, Leon Nelson, Bob White, and Roy Wrightson. Honorary escorts were Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop I, Pulaski County Sheriff Department, St. Robert Police Department, and Waynesville Police Department.
Burial was in the Francis J. Lynch Memorial VFW section of Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
A memorial to the American Heart Association was been established in memory of Carroll Dean Short.
