Josie Virginia McCumber 1898-1990

Josie Virginia McCumber of Waynesville, daughter of Jeff Davis Sexton and Virginia (Batson) Sexton, was born in Cleora, Indian Territory (this was before Oklahoma became a state) on July 11, 1898. She departed this life April 25, 1990, in the Waynesville Nursing Center, Waynesville, MO, at the age of 91.
Jo accepted Christ and was baptized into the Baptist faith as a young girl.
On November 27, 1916, Josie was united in marriage to George A. McCumber; the ceremony took place in her parents' home. Jo and George spent over 66 years together before George passed away on June 9, 1983.
Jo and George spent most of their lives in Vinita, OK. George retired as owner and operator of the DX service station in Vinita, and Jo was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, gardening and houseplants. She had quite a green thumb.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, G. A. and Vicky L. McCumber of Waynesville; a sister, Hazel Davis, of Tulsa, OK; a granddaughter, Elizabeth McCumber of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Josie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and two sisters.
The body was in state Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27, in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 28 in the Ketchum Cemetery near Vinita OK, under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
