Norman Ray Evans 1941-2010

Norman Ray Evans, of rural Dixon, was born on March 1, 1941, near Dixon, a son of William Clay and Martha Irene (Kelley) Evans, and departed this life to be seated at the right hand of Jesus, at 4:06 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at his residence near Dixon. Norman had battled complications from colon cancer for the past two years and had attained the age of 69 years, seven months and six days.

Norman was united in marriage on April 23, 1967, in the Santee Church, near Dixon, to Carolyn Jean Warnol and to this union two daughters were born. He was preceded in death by his Father on November 13, 1975; his Mother on February 14, 2001; one Brother, Leroy Evans on June 4, 2005; his father-in-law, W.T. Warnol on March 8, 2001; one nephew, Randall Evans on September 4, 1999; sister-in-law, Susan Evans in May 2010; brohter-in-law, Chess Warnol on March 22, 2002; sister-in -law, Neoma Sommer, May 19, 2008 and Louella Warnol in May 2, 1943.

Norman had been a member of the Lighthouse Worship Center, Dixon; a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 346, AF&AM, Dixon; the Order of Eastern Star, Rainbow Chapter No. 263, Vienna; and a volunteer for the Dixon Fire Department for many years. He had worked for Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, retiring after 25 years and later for the University of Missouri Rolla, retiring after 13 years, as well as working for the funeral homes. He loved gardening, working in his yard, watching birds, fishing, hunting and being with his family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Norman include: his wife, Carolyn Jean Evans, of the home near Dixon; his two daughters and son-in-law, Leann and Dallas McNew, Dixon and Laura Bodkins, Dixon; son-in-law, Ron Bodkins, Dixon; his mother-in-law, Thelma Warnol, Dixon; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Vernon Smith, Dixon; Lucille and Russell Blackwell, Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Debbie and Bruce Doublin, Lebanon; five grandchildren, Andrew and wife Melissa; Jordan and husband, Jared; Lauren, Haley and Daniel; two step grandchildren, John and wife Katie and Stephanie and husband Jerry; one great-grandson, Tucker; three step great-grandchildren, Alisa, Kalvin and Emmit; brothers and sisters-in-law George "Bud" Sommer, Barbara Warnol, Kathryn Mitchell, Relora Wills, Donald and Tina Warnol and Carl and Cindy Warnol; numerous nephews; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Norman at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2010 in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Pastor Bruce Doublin, Lebanon and Bro. Elton Dake, Iberia officiating. "How Great Thou Art", "Do You Remember These?" "I Will Go To My Grace Loving You" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" were played for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Warnol Family Cemetery near Dixon, under the direction of Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Norman were Andrew Evans, Daniel Simpson, John Bodkins, Jared Douglas, Donald Smith, and Bobby Dozier. Honorary pallbearers were Jordan Douglas, Lauren Simpson, Haley Simpson, Melissa Evans, Tucker Douglas, Gavin Bruff and Chadley Warnol.

Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon.
