On April 24, 1954, Fred was united in marriage to Opal Ray. Fred and Opal shared nearly 36 years together.
Fred and Opal lived in the Fair Grove area for about eight years, where they owned a dairy farm. He loved so much to farm. Fred was also involved in real estate in the Springfield area before moving back to the Richland-Buckhorn area two years ago. He had recently opened the Interstate Food Mart at the Buckhorn Exit of I-44. He and his brother Chuck also owned the Interstate Development shopping and office center.
Fred was a much loved and respected man by his family, friends and employees. It has been said that he was the finest and most caring employer that one could ever have. Whenever a friend or neighbor would need help, Fred was there. He will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his wife, Opal; his mother, Maudie Ruth Thompson of St. Robert; two brothers, Jim and Chuck Thompson, both of Waynesville; two sisters, Geneva Treat of St. Robert and Carolyn Savage of Nixa; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kenneth Lee.
Fred Thompson, such a loved and cherished man, will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family, friends and community.
