James Weldon Burns 1932-2012

James Weldon Burns, son of the late Hubert Harmon and Ruby Lorene (Nesbitt) Burns, was born July 18, 1932 in Durant, Oklahoma where he grew up and attended school.

On November 22, 1950, James entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge on January 24, 1954. He earned several awards and commendations for his faithful service.

On October 10, 1987, James was united in marriage to Rosalie Maderos in Plain View, Texas. They shared over 24 years of marriage together and were blessed with many wonderful memories.

During his working years, James worked as a cotton farmer and then began working as an over the road truck driver. In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed music and for a time he had his own country music band. He loved to read and watch Westerns and also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboy’s while having a few cold ones. He was member of the American Legion in Texas and the Disabled American Veterans in Missouri.

James passed away the morning of Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville having attained the age of 79 years, 8 months and 30 days. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

James leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rosalie Burns; seven children: Hubert “Allen” Burns (Tammie), Jimmy “Douglas” Burns, Stacy Burns, Dena Graham (Andy), Taffie Burns, Ruby Burns and Kevin Sargent (Susan); two siblings: Peggy Lee (Gaythal) and Patsi Thorton (Gary); 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one son: Weldon Burns; two brothers: Donnie and Louis Burns; and two sisters: Dene Riley and Mary Jane Porter.

Service with military honors was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain Kirk Kay officiating. The songs “I Will Always Love You” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Military honors were provided by the United States Army.
