Nellie Priscilla (Wintjen) Greer 1923-2012

Nellie Priscilla Greer, daughter of the late John Thomas and Lillie Melvina (Love) Wintjen, was born April 17, 1923 in Pleasant Hill, Illinois where she grew up and attended school.

On February 28, 1937, Nellie was united in marriage to Roy Snowden Greer in Pleasant Hill, Illinois. They moved to Pulaski County and were blessed with six children: Harold, Barney, Dorthy, Johnny, Lillie and Edward. Roy and Nellie spent 44 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death.

Nellie was a homemaker and truly enjoyed being able to stay at home and raise her children on the farm. She loved caring for her family and to cook meals for them. In her spare time, Nellie enjoyed watching hummingbirds, working in her large garden and quilting with the kids.

As a young girl, Nellie made an important decision in her life and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She attended Centerpoint Church and attended every chance she was able.

Nellie passed away the morning of Sunday, April 22, 2012 in the Mercy Hospital of Lebanon, Missouri having attained the age of 89 years and 5 days. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Nellie leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Barney Greer (Donna) of Rogersville, MO, Johnny Greer (Margaret) of Waynesville and Lillie Brady of Waynesville; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great grandchild; one sister: Barbara Gosidgan of New Haven, CA; several other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by three children: Harold, Dorthy and Edward; three brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. James Desjardins and Rev. Dale Roller officiating. The songs “In the Garden”, “I’ll Fly Away” and “What A Day That Will Be” were played. Serving as escorts were T.J. Woodruff, Mel Woodruff, Felton Shoemaker, Mikey Greer, Mike Jones, Chance Greer and Steven Greer. Burial followed in the Centerpoint Cemetery of Richland, Missouri.
