William Charles “Charlie” Hance 1945-2012

William Charles “Charlie” Hance, son of the late William and Mary Ellen (Hance) Fenton, was born November 12, 1945 in Dixon, Missouri and passed away at 4:03 a.m. Sunday, March 18, 2012 in the Cox South Hospital of Springfield, Missouri.

On February 20, 1965, Charlie was united in marriage with the love of his life, Annette Sue Hickman. They eloped to Buffalo, Missouri and had enough money to buy a cheap burger and fries. They shared many wonderful memories together and were blessed with one daughter, Angie.

Since 1972, Charlie has been the owner and operator of Charlie’s Cars. He had many different car lots as well as auto auctions in Rolla, St. Clair and St. Robert. His “No Bull” approach made him a very successful businessman for over 40 years. He did whatever it took to make his customers happy.

Charlie was a huge supporter of our community. His big heart touched many lives. He helped so many people and never wanted any recognition in return. His compassion for his fellowman was something that everyone seemed to notice about him. Those who knew Charlie best knew that Charlie had a good sense of humor. You never knew just what he would do next to make you laugh.

Charlie loved his family. He was very proud of his girls and enjoyed spending time with them. He treasured every moment he spent with them.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed deer hunting. He looked forward to chasing that big buck and spending time with the guys at deer camp. He had lots of stories to tell every time he came back from camp.

Charlie had recently begun attending Maranatha Baptist Church in St. Robert. He was so thankful to Pastor Keith Carnahan for never giving up on him. He loved their almost weekly meeting at the car lot. They had developed a very special friendship and Charlie grew to love his pastor’s heart.

Charlie will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Annette Hance of the home; one daughter: Angie Hance of Waynesville, MO; two granddaughters: Brittani and Hailey Hance; one great grandchild: Rori Martin; six siblings: Billy Fenton (Stephanie) of Waynesville, MO, Donnie Fenton (Beverly) of Plato, MO, Jackie Fenton (Missy) of Waynesville, MO, Charles Fenton of Waynesville, MO, Joann Simpson of the state of Virginia and Debbie Baker (Terry) of Newburg, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by one infant sister, Barbara Ann Fenton.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 in the Westside Baptist Church of Waynesville with Pastor Keith Carnahan officiating. The songs “I Won’t Let Go”, and “Who Am I” were played. Becky Lercher sang “Serenaded By Angels”. Serving as escorts were Billy Fenton, Charles Fenton, Junior (Chief) Levitt, Chuck Ousley, Jerry Morgan and Mark Sundell. Serving as honorary escorts were Dick Jones, Don Scott, Elmo Brantley, George Ruckman, Jim Fair, Richard Baptiste and Terry Baker.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Park Cemetery of Waynesville. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charlie Hance to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Kidney Foundation and may be left at the funeral home.
