Charles Marion Willits 1898-1984

Charles Marion Willits was born June 3, 1898 in Onawa, Iowa, and he passed away August 5, 1984 at the Waynesville Nursing Center in Waynesville, Missouri.

Charles was united in marriage to Oma Imo Hensley on February 1, 1920, and to this union was born three sons: Charles, Jr., Stanley Lewayne, and Kenneth Lindel. Charlie spent most of his life in Pulaski County. As a young man he lived in Laquey, Missouri, and carried the mail on horseback between Laquey and Waynesville traveling on the Old Wire Road.

Later, the family operated a dairy farm in Waynesville. Charlie was also employed at Decker’s Store, Dodd’s Store, and Mooney’s Market. For several years he was employed by the Waynesville Lumber Company.

Charles was a member of the Westside Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon as long as his health permitted. The church family was very dear to him. Charlie was a very loving, kind, and gentle husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Oma, one son, Charles Jr., his father Newman Willits, his mother Lula Mae (Stevens) Willits, five brothers, Raymond, Leonard, Clifford, Everett, and Lloyd, and two sisters, Mildred (Willits) Hensley and Thelma Willits,

He is survived by two sons, Stanley Willits of Waynesville, Missouri, and Kenneth Willits of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one sister, Dollie Hall of Springfield, Oregon, 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 7, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Westside Baptist Church, with Rev. Keith Miles officiating.

Interment was in the Mitchell Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Music was furnished by organist Marjorie Link and soloist Pat White.

Those serving as escorts were Russell Sheldon, Marvin, Dwight Hensley, Donald Clark, Ellis Martin, and Champ Collier.
