Elizabeth “Betty” L. (Bates) Bowman 1897-1982

Elizabeth “Betty” L. Bowman was born a daughter of Larkin R. Bates and Mary A. (Howard) Bates in Waynesville, Missouri on May 21, 1897 and departed this life November 21, 1982, at the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital having attained the age of 85 years, 5 months and 18 days.

She lived much of her life in Santa Barbara, California where she was very active in the Christian Church, Women’s Club, and many other activities.

In 1977 she returned to Waynesville, making her home at John Knox Village.

Memorial Services were held Tuesday, November 23, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Virgil White officiating. Interment was in the Crocker Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Pallbearers were: Donald Bowman, Robert Bowman, Larry Rogers, Byron Eldredge, Kenton Wagner, Robert Knight, and C.W. Parker.

She is survived by two sons, Donald, of Sherman Oaks, California and Robert of Escondido California; two sisters, Estella Bates and Josephine F. Robinson, both of Waynesville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, and 4 sisters.
