Sylvia Lucylle (Davis) Rice 1917-1994

WAYNESVILLE- Sylvia Lucylle Rice, Waynesville, daughter of Harry Guy Davis and Nora Lee (Mackey) Davis, was born March 6, 1917, in Marshfield, Mo.

Lucylle grew up in Marshfield and graduated from high school there. Lucylle accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville.

On March 15, 1934 she was united in marriage with Cecil Paul Rice in Niangua, Mo. Cecil and Lucylle shared nearly 60 years of marriage and one son, Paul, and two daughters, Patsy and Sue, together.

In 1950, Lucylle and Cecil established Rice's Laundry and Cleaners. Lucylle was active in their family business until her retirement in 1979. She was a charter member of the Pulaski County Historical Society and a lifetime member of the Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation. Her interest of history and genealogy resulted in the publication of three books of Rice-Davis history.

Lucylle departed this life the morning of Jan. 3, 1994 in Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, at the age of 76. Her love for family and cooking made every holiday a special event for her loving family and friends.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Cecil; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul G. and Janice Rice; her daughter, Patsy L. Woodman and her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Gary Hansen, all of Waynesville; two brothers, Herschel Davis, Marshfield, and Eugene Davis, Columbia; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Brad and Mary Rice, Robert Rice, Roy and Teresa (Rice) Roberts, Edmund and Jackie Kubisiak, Gary and Janet Kubisiak, Cary Hansen and Dana Deardorff; eight great-grandchildren, Rachel and Tara Roberts, Christina and Daniel Kubisiak. Jeffrey, Steven, and Laura Huffman, and Andy Smith; special friends Elfriede Linane, Lila Rice and Barbara Riley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Nora Davis; a sister, Mrs. Inez Ventling; and a brother, Alvin Davis.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral chapel.
