Burton Twiss Shukers, Senior 1897-1957

Burton Twiss Shukers, Senior, 60 years old, died at 8:55 a.m., December 19, 1957 at Warrensburg Medical Center after an illness of several months. Mr. Shukers suffered a heart attack Sunday, December 15 and had been a patient in the Medical Center since that time.

He was born September 7, 1897, at Sedan, Kansas. He was a son of Charles D. Shukers and Maude Twiss Shukers. He was married May 26, 1932 to Kathryn Evans at Warrensburg. He was a graduate of Kansas State School for the Blind. He attended Kansas State College at Pittsburg and held a life certificate to teach.

He gained wide recognition in his 42 years as a tuner, tuning for many artists as well as colleges and other individuals. He had been a resident of Warrensburg for the past nine years during which time he was contract tuner for Central Missouri State College, St. Pauls College, and Missouri Valley College.

Prior to this he resided in Waynesville, Missouri where he was Justice of Peace of Pulaski County for 12 years. He is remembered by his many friends in Waynesville and members of the Highway Patrol with whom he was associated.

He was a Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellow Lodge and a member of the Methodist Church at Waynesville.

His main interest in life, other than his work, was his family, and hobby of railroading.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of the home, and the following children: Kay and Burton, Junior, of the home, Charles of Keokuk, Iowa, Mrs. Elbert Leigh of St. Louis and Mrs. Robert Henley of Kansas City. Preceding him in death was one son, Donald Evans, who died in 1941 at the age of 18 months. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. John Rucker of Independence, Kansas, and two grandchildren, John Shukers and Steven Leigh.
