Harry Lee Heflin 1895-1982

Harry Lee Heflin of Dixon was born on July 29, 1895 at Jerome, a son of Terrell and Julina Brooks Heflin, and departed this life at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 18 1982 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. He had been in failing health for the past two years and had attained the age of 86 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He was united in marriage on February 13, 1915 at Arlington to the former Miss Olive Short, and to this union five children were born.

Prior to his retirement in 1962, he had been employed by the Frisco Railroad Company, Springfield for forty-seven years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized in 1925 at the Newburg Church of God and later attended the First Baptist Church in Dixon. He was a charter member of the Frisco Locomotive Engineers Organization and the Gasconade Coon and Dog Protective Association.

He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 1982 at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. Rufus Longnecker, First Baptist Church, Dixon, officiating.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.

Pallbearers were Ben Plake, Earl Martin, Norman Evans, Floyd Williams, Theron Warnol, and Franklin Brinkley.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olive Heflin of the home; one son, Harry P. Heflin, Santa Clara, California; four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Herrera, Jerome; Mrs. Leona Brinkley, Dixon; Mrs. Emma Grisham, Rolla, and Mrs. Pauline Wilson, Manchester; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Terrell Heflin; three brothers, Milford Heflin, Fred Heflin, and Wesley Heflin and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Crabtree and Mrs. Susie Aaron.
