Mary Roberta Collier 1874-1971

Funeral Services For Mrs. Mary Roberta Collier

Mary Roberta Collier was born January 22, 1874, and departed this life March 13, 1971, in Pulaski County Memorial Hospital in Waynesville, Missouri. She was the daughter of J.J. and Kanzada Hedding Elms.

She was sister to Ida Bell Long of the Mossy Spring’s Community and Wes Elms of St. Louis. She also had two half-brothers, Jack Jones of Dixon and George W. Shelton of the Mossy Springs Community, who all preceded her in death.

“Aunt Bert”, as she was affectionately known, spent her entire life in Pulaski County, where she had a host of relatives and friends who adored her: for to know her was to love her. A kind and loving wife and mother, she was always ready to share her generous hospitality.

The home of “Aunt Bert and Uncle John” was in the Mossy Spring Community, where for many years they owned and operated a summer resort. Living there until around 1930, they then moved to Waynesville where they resided until his death on March 29, 1962.

Early in life Mary Roberta Collier was converted and united with the Methodist Church of Mossy Springs, later transferring her membership to the Waynesville United Methodist Church. Although unable to be active in the Church for many years, she retained her life-long loyalty to the Methodist Church.

She leaves to mourn her passing: Two Sons, Four Grand Children, Four Great Grand Children, and Five Great Great Grand Children, and a host of relatives and friends.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery in Waynesville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held, Monday March 15, 1971 at 2 p.m., at the Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Sanders and Rev. Bill Dudley officiating. Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Moss-Williams of Waynesville. Pallbearers were Jim Long, Ode Long, George Long, Od Long, Elmer Long, Charles Parker.
