Wesley Alvin Ellzey 1896-1984

Wesley Alvin Ellzey was born February 10, 1896, in Milford, Kansas to John Alvin and Cynthia Wilson Ellzey, and passed away June 25, 1984, at his home in Carthage, Missouri, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at an early age in the Baptist Church at Milford, Kansas. After moving to the Richland area in 1941, he transferred his membership to Friendship Baptist Church on Turkey Ridge where he served as a Deacon.

On May 26, 1928, he was united in marriage to Retta Oliver and to this union was born seven children.

He was retired from his occupation as a carpenter in building construction.

Wesley served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I, and fought in five fronts during that time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Lloyd Milford.

Survivors include his wife, Retta of Richland, Missouri; three sons, Floyd of Richland, Missouri, Carroll of Carthage, Missouri, and Wesley J. of Waynesville, Missouri; four daughters, Betty Filby of Topeka, Kansas, Pauline Hammond of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, Irene Berry of Laquey, Missouri, and Iva Moore of Carthage, Missouri, 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Wesley A. Ellzey were held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 1984. At Oaklawn Cemetery. Officiating at the services was Rev. Ray York. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland, Mo.
