Hartley Herbert Hotchkiss 1927-1984

Hartley Herbert Hotchkiss of Waynesville, Missouri, was born April 16, 1927 at Jackson, Wisconsin; the son of Herbert and Clara Hotchkiss and departed this life on February 9, 1984 at the Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Colorado. He had attained the age of 54 years, 9 months, and 24 days.

He completed 12 years of school at Marathon, Iowa; and served in the United States Army for 22 years, from 1945 to 1980. He retired as a Master Sergeant, having served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and numerous other duty stations. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze service stars, Republic Vietnam Commendation, World War II Valor Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Upon his retirement, he pursued his hobby of farming in the Waynesville area.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Adelina, of the home; his mother, Clara L. Hotchkiss, Sue Rapids, Iowa; 3 sisters: Pauline Martinson, Harrett Martinson, both of Sue Rapids, Iowa; Naomi Fitzsimmons, Webb City, Iowa; 2 brothers: Milton Hotchkiss, Red Wing, Minnesota; Byron Hotchkiss, Laurens, Iowa; 2 sister-in-laws: Elizabeth Heil, Pirmasens, West Germany; and Anita Herrman, Australia.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Hotchkiss in 1971.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, February 13, 1984 at 11:00 a.m. at the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home with Chaplain Captain Barry Minsky officiating.

Burial was held at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery at Springfield, Missouri with full Military Honors; under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville, Missouri.
