“Newt” as he was known to his family and friends, was united in marriage to Bertha Cook on November 6, 1930 and to this union was born eight children, all surviving.
He lived and worked as a carpenter in the Pulaski County area most of his life. He helped build the First Baptist Church in Richland and helped in the building of Fort Leonard Wood. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ several years ago and was baptized in a Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Bertha of the home; six sons: Elmer, Delmar, and Larry all of Richland, Bill of Lebanon, Gary of Tuscumbia, and Robert of Montreal; two daughters: Maxine McDaniel of Richland and Shirley Allen also of Richland; a half-sister, Mrs. Grace Hicks of Eldorado, Kansas; 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Newt is preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Services were held Thursday, February 7, 1985 10:30 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Raymond McClary officiating.
Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and DeLores Shadel, organist.
Escorts were: Rick Ellzey, Eddie Steward, C.J. Becker, Raymond Robert, Jr., Randy Ellzey, Ron Steward, Mike Borgan, and Thomas Allen.
Burial was in the Buckhorn Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel.
