Leslie Elvin Nickels 1918-1985

Leslie Elvin Nickels, son of Celia Jackson and the late Quincy L. Nickels was born September 13, 1918 in Pulaski County and departed this life January 30, 1985 in Waynesville, Missouri at the age of 66 years.

Leslie was united in marriage with Mary L. Fryman September 21, 1939 and to this union was born six children. He is preceded in death by his father, one son, Leslie David and one brother Quincy Lloyd.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corp and a veteran of WW II.

He was a member of the Otterville Baptist Church, Otterville, Illinois and retired from Olin Company in East Alton, Illinois in 1978, after 36 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home; one son, Gerald of Godfrey, Illinois; four daughters, Barbara Ontis of Crocker, Janet Sue Freand of Jerseyville, Illinois, Martha Nickels of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Anita Nickels also from Jacksonville, Illinois; one brother, Aubrey Nickels of Atlanta, Georgia; five sisters, Fern McClary of Godfrey, Illinois, Iris Romine of Lemont, Illinois, Vinita McClary of Richland, Anna Ferree of Vero Beach, Florida, Eva Carlson of Quincy, Illinos; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson; other relatives and friends.

Leslie is also survived by his mother Celia Nickels.

Services were held Saturday, February 2, 1985 2:00 p.m. at Gubser Funeral Home with Rev. James Endsley officiating.

Escorts were: Pat Nickels, Junior Carlson, Roy Nickels, Bob Ontis, Roger Carlson, and Larry Sloan. Honorary escorts were: Leonard Martin, Charles McClary, and Bruce McClary.

Burial was in the Val Halta Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gubser Funeral Home.
