Joe E. McCarter, Jr. 1918-1982

Joe E. McCarter, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. McCarter, was born on September 8, 1918, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and departed this life on July 6, 1982 in Sedalia, Missouri, following a lingering illness. At the time of his passing, he had attained the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 30 days.

He was converted and accepted Christ as his personal saviour as a young man and was a member of Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

He was united in marriage to Nathella Van Beale in Conway, South Carolina on March 7, 1977.

He entered U.S. Army in 1939, served during World War II, and after serving 21 years, was retired in 1962.

Although a native of North Carolina, he moved to Richland about 6 years ago.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10, 1982 at 10:00 a.m. at the Colonial Funeral Chapel in Richland with Ministers Chaplain “Capt” Richard W. Dishno and Rev. William Carter officiating.

Pallbearers were Military Escorts.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Nathella of the home; 1 son, Joey, of Wilmington, North Carolina; 5 stepsons, David Myers of Richland, Missouri, Sgt. Daniel W. Myers, U.S. Marine Corps, Conrad Meyers and Patrick Meyers of State of Illinois, Mike Myers of Anchorage, Alaska; 2 step daughters, Penny Sue Berg of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Candy Perez of Wilmington, Delaware; 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 16 grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, 1 sister and 1 brother.
