Luther Eaken 1912-1984

Luther Eaken was born in Camden County, Missouri, on August 26, 1912, the son of Willis N. and Mary E. Shelton Eaken, and passed away February 15, 1984, following a short illness.

On September 4, 1937, he was united in marriage to Nora L. Pruitt, and to this union were born three children. Luther and Nora lived in and around Richland all their lives.

At an early age, Luther accepted Christ as his personal saviour at Dublin Baptist Church, later moving to his membership to Independence Baptist. He has been a member of Grace Baptist for the last three years. 36 years ago, he was a deacon at Elm Grove Baptist. He was faithful to his church as long as his health permitted.

He was retired from the gas company where he was employed for about 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leonard, and one daughter, Wilda Sue, who died in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Nora of the home; two sons: Dorel Eaken of Richland, Missouri and Wayne Eaken of Palmer, Alaska; daughter-in-laws: Pam and Judy Eaken; two sisters: Edith Holder of Lebanon, Missouri and Beulah Barnes of Lake Ozark, Missouri; three granddaughters and one grandson; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18, 1984, 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Freddy Blevins and Rev. Gary Hutsell officiating.

Music was provided by Larry Atkins.

Escorts were: Eddie Holder, David Phelps, Jess Elam, Ed Graves, Lloyd Williams, and Billy Hamilton.

Honorary escorts were: Mayfield Wilson, Ed Southard, Ralph Posten, and Dick Johnson.

Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel.
