Leesville man dies in high speed crash

Leesville, LA (KSLA) - Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Leesville.

Troopers responded to the crash around 10:20 am, which occurred on Nona Street near the Fairgrounds.

The crash involved a 2005 Toyota pickup, driven by 69-year-old Logan M. York.

The Chevrolet was east bound on Nona Street at a high rate of speed when York lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several trees.

York was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Logan York, 69 of Leesville, LA, a retired U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class, and Vietnam War veteran, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2009 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Leesville, LA.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 9 at Elm Grove Cemetery, under direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland.

Visitation is from Noon until 1:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. York is survived by four children: Jarell York, Sr. of Green Cove Springs, Florida, Garell York, Sr. of Cypremort Point, Louisiana, Lisa York of Springfield, Missouri, Kristie York of Kaplan, Louisiana; three step children: Regina Trahan of Abbeville, Louisiana and Ozan Gaspard and Tiffany Gaspard both of Kaplan, Louisiana; three sisters: Eva Becker, Verba LePage and Betty Winfrey (Clyde) all of Richland; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
